Yum Brands proprietary AI is being deployed across the company’s global restaurant portfolio through its internal platform called Byte by Yum. The platform supports operations at KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill locations. Yum Brands proprietary AI combines multiple software tools into a single system designed for quick-service restaurant operations. The company discussed the platform’s performance during its February 5, 2026 earnings call.

Yum Brands Proprietary AI Platform Byte by Yum Overview

Byte by Yum is a proprietary technology stack owned and operated by Yum Brands. The platform includes bundled and modular software products delivered as SaaS tools. At the end of 2025, at least one Byte by Yum product was active in 38,000 restaurants worldwide. The platform is organized into two primary bundles: Smart Ops and Digital Ordering, along with optional add-on services.

Yum Brands Proprietary AI Improves Restaurant Operations

The Smart Ops bundle includes point-of-sale systems, menu management tools, and kitchen management software. Yum Brands reported measurable operational results linked to the use of its proprietary AI tools. Stockouts declined by as much as 85% in locations using the system. Aggregator ordering failure rates fell by up to 75%. Customer satisfaction increased by up to 10% in restaurants where Byte by Yum products were deployed.

Digital Sales Growth Driven by Yum Brands Proprietary AI

The Digital Ordering bundle supports mobile ordering, web ordering, and third-party delivery marketplace integration. Yum Brands stated that Byte by Yum contributed to increased digital system sales. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the company reported $11 billion in digital system sales. Digital transactions represented 60% of total system sales during the quarter. Digital system sales are defined as transactions primarily enabled by automated technology.

Global Expansion Plans for Yum Brands Proprietary AI

Yum Brands stated that owning its core AI and digital infrastructure provides control over data and technology development. The company indicated that Byte by Yum was first validated in U.S. markets. Following those results, Yum Brands plans to continue expanding the proprietary AI platform across international markets. The company operates more than 55,000 restaurants globally across its brands.

Yum Brands proprietary AI remains central to the company’s long-term digital strategy.
