UAE Cyber Authority Warns Public About AI-Driven Online Scams

AI-driven online scams are increasing across the UAE, according to a new warning from the Cybersecurity Council. Authorities say artificial intelligence now enables fraudsters to create highly realistic digital scams that are harder for users to detect. The warning was issued through the council’s weekly Cyber Pulse awareness campaign. AI-Driven Online Scams Increase Speed and Scale The Cybersecurity Council reported that AI-driven online scams allow criminals to operate faster than before. Fraudsters use automation to complete tasks in seconds. These tasks include generating fake messages, copying official branding, and producing realistic voice imitations. Scammers also rely on AI to create urgent messages designed to cause panic. Officials said these techniques remove many traditional red flags linked to fraud. AI-Driven Online Scams Behind Most Breaches Officials stated that AI-driven online scams are now linked to more than 90 percent of recent digital security breaches. AI-powered phishing messages often appear professional and error-free. Many messages closely resemble communications from banks, companies, or government entities. This similarity makes it harder for users to identify threats. The council added that AI-generated images and advertisements on social media are also being used to mislead users. Safety Steps Against AI-Driven Online Scams The council urged residents to take precautions against AI-driven online scams. Users were advised to avoid clicking links from unknown sources. Messages requesting personal or financial details should be verified through official channels. The council recommended enabling multi-factor authentication on all accounts. Using updated security software was also advised. Users should review messages carefully for inconsistencies, unusual requests, or unexpected urgency. Ongoing Cyber Pulse Awareness Campaign The Cyber Pulse campaign is now in its second year. It runs across social media platforms to promote safe online behavior. The initiative focuses on educating the public about evolving digital threats, including AI-driven online scams. The campaign supports the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen trust in digital services as technology continues to advance.
