Meta is making a bigger push into the business AI market with the launch of Meta Business Agent, an artificial intelligence tool designed to help companies communicate with customers, recommend products, qualify leads, and close sales across Meta’s messaging platforms.

The new AI agent is being expanded globally to businesses of all sizes and will work across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Meta says the tool is designed to help companies deliver faster, more personalized customer support while reducing the need for manual responses to routine sales and service inquiries.

For businesses that already rely on Meta’s platforms to reach customers, the launch marks a major step toward AI-powered commerce inside social and messaging apps.

Meta Business Agent Expands Across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram

Meta Business Agent is built to act as an always-available digital assistant for companies. It can respond to customers in their local languages, answer questions about a business, recommend products from a catalog, book appointments, and qualify incoming leads.

The AI agent can also support sales by helping customers move from discovery to purchase inside the same conversation. This makes it especially useful for small businesses, online sellers, service providers, and brands that handle large volumes of customer messages.

Meta said businesses can also decide when a human team member should step in, giving companies more control over the customer experience.

AI Agents Move From Support to Sales

Many AI chatbots have traditionally focused on answering basic customer service questions. Meta’s approach goes further by positioning the Business Agent as a sales tool.

The agent is more than a FAQ responder. It can walk users through product choices, suggest products, generate leads, set appointments, and help close sales conversations.

This is part of a larger trend in the AI market, where companies are moving from basic chatbots to AI agents that can take action, automate workflows, and help with revenue-generating work.

For Meta, this opens the door to a larger business AI opportunity. The company already has a massive customer communication network through WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, making it well positioned to offer AI tools directly where businesses and customers already interact.

Meta Business Agent Will Start Free Before Becoming Paid

Meta Business Agent will be free for businesses at launch. However, Meta plans to introduce paid subscription options in the coming months.

That could make business AI a new recurring revenue stream for Meta as it battles other big tech companies in the enterprise AI space.

There’s a free launch period, which could allow small and medium-sized businesses to try out AI-powered customer communication, before deciding whether to pay for the service later.

    Meta launches Business Agent Platform

The Meta Business Agent Platform is also being launched by Meta in addition to the AI agent.

This platform is for businesses that want to build, customize and deploy AI agents at scale. It allows companies to connect their agents with systems such as Shopify, Zendesk, Shopee, and other business tools.

By connecting to these platforms, Meta’s AI agents can do more than answer questions. They can take action on behalf of the business, support customer service workflows, access commerce systems, and help deliver more personalized experiences.

For larger companies, Meta says the platform will include enterprise-grade controls, guardrails, and measurement features. These tools are important for companies that need stronger oversight when deploying AI across customer-facing channels.

Meta Wants AI to Help Run Daily Business Operations

Meta also plans to expand the capabilities of its Business Agent over time.

Future features may include market research, product insights, calendar management, and competitive intelligence. If successful, this could move Meta Business Agent beyond customer service and sales into broader business operations.

That would put Meta in closer competition with enterprise AI platforms from companies such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, and others developing AI agents for workplace productivity, sales, and customer support.

A Bigger Push Into Enterprise AI

Meta’s move shows how quickly the AI agent market is evolving.

Rather than focusing only on consumer AI assistants, Meta is now targeting businesses that want practical AI tools connected to real customer interactions. This gives Meta a potential advantage because its platforms are already used by billions of people and millions of businesses around the world.

Meta can make business automation more accessible to companies that may not have the resources to build custom AI systems from scratch by embedding AI agents directly into WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

    What This Means for Businesses

For businesses, Meta Business Agent could reduce response times, enhance customer engagement and allow teams to take on more conversations without adding to headcount.

For online sellers and service-based companies, messaging apps could be more powerful sales channels if they can recommend products, qualify leads and book appointments.

But businesses will still need to be wary of AI conversations. Customer trust, accuracy, brand voice, and escalation to human support will be important as companies begin using AI agents in customer-facing roles.

    Why It Matters

Meta Business Agent matters because it brings AI agents directly into the platforms where many businesses already talk to customers every day.

Instead of requiring companies to adopt a separate enterprise AI system, Meta is placing AI-powered sales and support inside WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. That could make AI automation more accessible for small businesses while giving larger companies new tools to scale customer engagement.

The launch also signals that the next phase of AI competition is not just about chatbots that answer questions. It’s about AI agents that can perform business tasks, assist with sales and help companies operate more efficiently.

This could be a big business opportunity for Meta. For companies, it could transform how customer service, sales and social commerce operate throughout messaging platforms.
