Singapore is adopting a cutting-edge approach in tourism by rolling out the first-ever AI-powered robodog guides across two of the city’s leading attractions – Sentosa Sensoryscape and Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
A pilot program, initiated by the Singapore Tourism Board in collaboration with Chinese travel company Mafengwo, will take place from April 18 until May 17, 2026. As the name implies, these robodogs will use artificial intelligence as well as Mafengwo’s rich content ecosystem to offer multilingual services.
AI-Based Robodogs Deployed at Two Major Tourist Destinations
The pilot will involve the deployment of AI-based robodogs at Sentosa Sensoryscape – a green corridor connecting Resorts World Sentosa and the beaches of Sentosa Island. In addition, AI-based robodogs will be deployed at Exploria and Curiosity Cove located within Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
These robots will be able to communicate with visitors in both English and Mandarin. They will also share interesting stories about these destinations. Moreover, the robodogs will recommend some other tourist sites nearby depending on the preferences of visitors.
Robodogs at Sentosa Sensoryscape Offer Guided Tours and Entertainment
Visitors can attend the tour hosted by AI-based robodogs at Sentosa Sensoryscape. During the guided tour, the robot guides will engage with guests. They will also make suggestions about attractions and sights that visitors may be interested in.
Apart from that, the robodogs will perform a special dance routine three times a day. There will also be some photo opportunities as visitors can meet and greet with robodogs, who will act as guides. As mentioned earlier by the Singapore Tourism Board, the guided tours last about 20 minutes. Furthermore, each session features five robodogs.
Robodogs Make Their Debut at Mandai Wildlife Reserve Family Attractions
The robodogs will debut inside Exploria, a multimedia attraction spanning 10,000 sq. meters. In addition, they will debut at Curiosity Cove – a 4,600 sq. meters area created for fun and adventure for kids and their parents.
These robots will exhibit a range of playful movements, including waving at visitors and some stunts. In Curiosity Cove, robodogs will interact with visitors in the company of Ranger Buddies.
Why This AI-Based Tourism Program Is Important
This initiative demonstrates yet another application of artificial intelligence, which is not limited to online interactions. Instead of utilizing the power of AI in chatbots or online recommendations, Singapore has taken this innovative approach to delivering a unique experience to visitors. They are introducing AI-powered robodogs that can communicate with tourists.
For the tourism industry, it may serve as another indication of a growing trend called smart tourism. In this trend, the process of visiting attractions becomes personalized, entertaining, and assisted by robots powered by AI.
Commenting on the initiative, the Singapore Tourism Board stressed that the new program fits its efforts aimed at enhancing tourism through the use of technology. The pilot program will allow the board to learn more about the expectations of visitors. It will also allow them to gather some information on technological aspects of the program implementation.
Bigger Picture
As can be seen, this project represents the trend of combining robotics, artificial intelligence, and immersive storytelling. Although this is currently a one-month pilot program, in the future, destinations all over the world may begin offering AI-powered robodogs and other robots for their tourists.
In addition to being used as smart guides or entertainers, these robots can have multiple applications.
