Singapore is giving AI a bigger role in how travelers discover the city.

The Singapore Tourism Board and Chinese travel platform Mafengwo have launched the Singapore AI Inspiration Lab in Beijing. The immersive pop-up uses artificial intelligence to help travelers build more personal Singapore itineraries. It also pushes visitors beyond the usual landmarks.

The event opened on August 23, 2026. It targets young travelers, families, and seniors. Each group can use AI-powered tools to explore Singapore based on different needs, interests, and travel styles.

AI Is Turning Singapore Trip Planning Into a Conversation

The Singapore AI Inspiration Lab puts AI planning at the center of the experience. Visitors can explore neighborhoods, night markets, design shops, and lesser-known natural areas. They do not need to start with a fixed itinerary. Instead, the AI assistant can work from individual interests and preferences. That makes travel planning feel more like a conversation than a long search session.

Singapore Wants Travelers to Look Beyond Famous Landmarks

The project is not designed only to recommend Marina Bay or other familiar attractions. Singapore and Mafengwo want travelers to discover smaller experiences too. AI can surface street art, nightlife, local neighborhoods, and niche attractions based on a user’s interests. This gives destination marketing a different angle. The technology is not simply selling Singapore. It is trying to match different parts of the city with different travelers.

Young Travelers Get More Flexible AI-Powered Routes

Younger travelers are one of the main audiences for the campaign. Mafengwo creator Yuandawang Jiushi Wo demonstrated how AI can uncover less obvious urban routes. Those suggestions can include street art, emerging neighborhoods, and nightlife. The idea is simple. Travelers can explore Singapore without following the same standard itinerary used by everyone else.

Families Can Build Itineraries Around Their Children

Families are getting a different use case. Travel creator Guo Xiaoyan presented a four-day, three-night Singapore itinerary built around family needs. AI tools can adjust recommendations based on a child’s age and interests. That could affect which attractions appear and how the days are structured. It also reduces some of the manual work involved in balancing activities for adults and children.

Senior Travelers Are Part of the AI Travel Push Too

The lab also makes room for older travelers. Creator Luo Gaga GAGA showed how AI can build a slower and more comfortable Singapore itinerary. The focus shifts away from packing too much into one day. Instead, the system can prioritize convenience, pacing, and suitable experiences. This matters because AI travel tools often focus heavily on younger users. Singapore’s approach is broader.

Visitors Can Watch Mafengwo’s AI Assistant Work in Real Time

One section of the pop-up demonstrates Mafengwo’s AI travel assistant on large screens. Visitors can watch it process requests and turn large amounts of travel information into recommendations. The experience shows how AI can replace some of the usual searching between blogs, guides, and booking pages. Users can ask questions instead. The system then narrows the information into a more focused travel plan.

Robot Dogs Add a More Experimental Side to Smart Tourism

The event goes beyond itinerary software. An interactive area includes intelligent robot dogs presented as possible future travel guides. They can answer questions and interact with visitors. Similar robots have already appeared at Sentosa and Mandai Wildlife Reserve in Singapore this year. Their role is still experimental, but they show how AI travel experiences may eventually extend into physical spaces.

The Partnership Has Been Building Since 2024

The AI Inspiration Lab is not a one-off experiment. Singapore Tourism Board and Mafengwo began a strategic AI-focused partnership in 2024. Mafengwo’s AI travel assistant, called AI Xiao Ma, appeared that year. Singapore became Mafengwo’s first overseas destination AI partner. The two organizations followed with an AI travel companion product in 2025.

AI Travel Assistants Are Becoming a Bigger Trend in China

Mafengwo is part of a much wider AI push among Chinese travel platforms. Trip.com has TripGenie, while Fliggy offers AskMe. Tongcheng and Tuniu have also developed AI-powered travel assistants. These systems increasingly combine planning, recommendations, and booking support. AI is becoming another way for travel platforms to keep users inside their ecosystem for longer.

Singapore Is Using AI as a Destination Marketing Tool

This project shows how destination marketing is changing. Tourism boards used to rely heavily on advertising, influencers, travel guides, and campaign videos. Those tools still matter. AI adds another layer. It can take the same destination and present a different version to each traveler.

That is useful for Singapore because the city serves many types of visitors. A young traveler may want nightlife and hidden neighborhoods. A family may care about convenience. An older traveler may prefer slower routes. AI can package those experiences differently without changing the destination itself.

AI Could Make Travel Planning More Personal — and Less Predictable

The Singapore AI Inspiration Lab is partly a marketing event. Still, it points to something larger.

Travel planning is moving away from fixed lists. AI can build recommendations around a person’s age, interests, pace, and travel companions. That could help travelers find experiences they might otherwise miss.

It also changes how destinations compete. Tourism boards may increasingly need their attractions, neighborhoods, and experiences to be understood by AI systems. The destinations that feed those systems better information could gain an advantage.

For Singapore, that experiment is already moving from the screen into the real world.
