SDAIA Opens AI Professional Badge Registration to Build Saudi Arabia’s AI Workforce

Saudi Arabia has taken another step toward formalising AI skills across the country.

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has officially opened registration for its AI Professional Badges, giving AI practitioners a nationally recognised way to validate their technical expertise. The programme first appeared earlier this year during the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building (ICAN 2026), but registration is now open to eligible professionals across the Kingdom.

AI Engineers and Data Scientists Lead the First Phase

SDAIA is starting with two of the industry’s most in-demand roles.

The first badge is designed for AI Engineers, focusing on practical abilities such as developing artificial intelligence models and building AI systems. The second targets Data Scientists, placing greater emphasis on analytical methods, algorithms and extracting value from complex datasets.

Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a broad field, the programme separates professional disciplines. That makes the certification more relevant to employers looking for specialised technical talent instead of general AI knowledge.

    National Standards Meet Global Expectations

The badges are more than certificates handed out after a training course.

Applicants will complete a structured assessment process built around three evaluation levels. SDAIA says the framework measures both theoretical understanding and real-world practical capability while aligning with recognised international standards.

The authority intends the programme to become Saudi Arabia’s national benchmark for assessing AI professionals. That fits into a wider effort to establish consistent standards as artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded across government and private industry.

    Supporting Saudi Arabia’s AI Ambitions

Saudi Arabia has spent the past several years investing heavily in AI infrastructure, research, education and workforce development. Professional credentials are another piece of that strategy.

As organisations expand AI projects, demand is growing for engineers and data scientists who can demonstrate verified technical skills instead of relying solely on academic qualifications or work history. National certification gives employers another way to evaluate candidates while helping professionals prove their expertise in a rapidly changing field.

The programme also complements the Kingdom’s broader push to position itself as a regional and global AI leader under its long-term digital transformation plans.

    Why Professional AI Credentials Matter

AI hiring has become increasingly competitive worldwide.

Companies often struggle to compare candidates whose experience comes from different universities, online courses or self-directed learning. A standardised badge offers a common reference point, making recruitment easier while encouraging professionals to keep their technical knowledge current.

Saudi Arabia is not alone in moving toward structured AI certification, but SDAIA’s initiative stands out because it is backed directly by the country’s national AI authority. That gives the programme greater weight than many private-sector certifications currently available.

    What Comes Next

Registration is now open for the first two AI Professional Badges, with additional specialisations expected as the framework develops.

If adoption is strong, the initiative could become one of the key benchmarks for AI talent development in Saudi Arabia, helping employers identify qualified professionals while giving practitioners a recognised pathway to demonstrate advanced technical capability.
