Dubai Puts AI at the Center of Tourism’s Next Phase as Travel 2040 Takes Shape

Dubai is putting artificial intelligence deeper into the machinery of tourism as the city looks toward the next stage of travel technology. The focus is moving beyond chatbots and recommendation engines. Instead, Dubai wants AI to connect data, infrastructure and visitor services. As a result, the travel experience can become more predictive, personalized and seamless.

That vision was highlighted at Arabian Travel Market 2026. There, Dr Marwan Al Zarouni, CEO of AI at Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, discussed how artificial intelligence could reshape the way destinations plan, operate and communicate with travellers.

Dubai Wants AI to Redesign Travel, Not Just Improve It

The shift Dubai is pursuing is bigger than making existing travel tools slightly faster. AI could eventually help tourism operators forecast demand and respond to changes sooner. It could also personalize services before visitors actively request them. The city has already introduced digital tools that support itinerary planning and mobile-enabled hotel check-in. However, the larger goal is to connect those services into a more intelligent tourism ecosystem.

Connected Tourism Data Is Becoming the Real AI Infrastructure

The effectiveness of AI in tourism depends heavily on access to accurate and connected data. Airlines, hotels, transport systems, attractions and government services all generate information. However, isolated datasets make it harder for AI platforms to understand the traveller’s complete journey. Dubai’s approach points toward closer integration between these systems. This creates a digital layer where AI can draw information from multiple sources and provide more timely and relevant assistance.

AI Search Is Changing How Travellers Discover Dubai

Artificial intelligence is also changing the way people research destinations before booking. Travellers are increasingly turning to AI assistants for recommendations, itineraries and travel planning, instead of relying only on traditional search engines. That means destinations such as Dubai need to ensure their information is structured, current and easy for AI systems to understand. Therefore, tourism marketing is no longer only about appearing prominently in search results. It is also becoming about being accurately represented inside AI-generated answers.

ATM 2026 Puts Travel Technology in the Spotlight

Arabian Travel Market 2026 is reinforcing this shift by placing technology at the center of its programme. The event runs from September 14 to 17 at Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme “Travel 2040: Driving New Frontiers Through Innovation and Technology.” AI, robotics, fintech, virtual reality, sustainability and digital travel platforms are among the technologies being showcased. This reflects how quickly the tourism industry is moving toward more technology-driven operations.

Dubai’s AI Tourism Push Fits a Bigger Economic Strategy

Dubai’s tourism plans are closely connected to its wider artificial intelligence strategy. The emirate has been expanding AI initiatives across government, business and the digital economy as part of the D33 Economic Agenda. Programmes supporting startups, AI talent and digital transformation are helping create an environment where tourism can serve as one of the most visible applications of the technology. As a result, for visitors that could mean experiencing AI throughout a trip without necessarily seeing it as a separate product.

Agentic AI Could Play a Bigger Role in Tourism

Dubai is also looking toward agentic AI systems that can perform tasks rather than simply provide information. In tourism, that could eventually mean AI assistants capable of coordinating several parts of a trip, such as recommending activities, checking availability, adjusting travel plans or supporting bookings through connected services. The concept is still evolving. However, it fits Dubai’s broader push to encourage greater use of autonomous AI systems across the private sector.

A More Predictive Tourism Model Is Starting to Take Shape

The long-term ambition appears to be a tourism system that reacts less and anticipates more. If Dubai can bring together aviation, hotels, transport, attractions and destination information, AI could help predict visitor demand, identify congestion points and deliver more personalized experiences across the city. Instead of tourists interacting with a collection of disconnected digital tools, the experience could gradually become more coordinated behind the scenes.

Dubai Is Turning Tourism Into a Testing Ground for AI

Tourism gives Dubai a highly visible environment in which to test how AI performs at scale. Millions of visitors interact with airports, hotels, transport networks, restaurants and attractions every year, creating an ideal setting for connected digital services. The real significance of Dubai’s strategy is not any single AI feature. Instead, it is the attempt to make artificial intelligence part of the underlying infrastructure that supports the entire visitor journey.

For the global travel industry, that makes Dubai worth watching. The city’s next phase of tourism may offer an early look at what happens when AI stops being an optional travel tool. Instead, it becomes part of how a destination itself operates.
