Recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence, especially in the realm of Generative AI, are poised to reshape the economic and social landscape of Europe. With projections suggesting a €1.2 trillion boost to the EU economy and a potential savings of 70 hours per year for the average worker, AI’s transformative promise is undeniable. Yet, to harness this potential equitably, we must ensure widespread access to AI education and resources.
In response, Google.org announced the €15 million AI Opportunity Fund: Europe earlier this year. This initiative aims to support AI upskilling for 20,000 individuals across 24 European countries, particularly focusing on underserved communities. The effort is in partnership with the Centre for Public Impact (CPI), which invited nonprofit and civil society organizations to apply for funding and access to specialized AI training.
The training programs, crafted by Google and expert partners, provide a foundational understanding of AI while tailoring content to meet the unique needs of local populations. One notable recipient, ICLEI Europe, is empowering public officials in cities across Europe to integrate AI into their climate action strategies.
