The UAE has officially become one of the world’s leading artificial intelligence powers in 2026, according to the latest Stanford AI Index Report. The report points to the UAE’s rapid progress in AI adoption, workforce development, government readiness and educational transformation, cementing the country’s status as a major global AI hub.
The UAE has achieved one of the highest AI adoption rates globally at 54 percent, ranking second globally after Singapore, according to a number of reports citing Stanford University’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI).
UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031 puts it on the global map
The long-term National AI Strategy 2031, announced to embed AI technologies into government, education, healthcare, transportation and business sectors, has driven the UAE’s rise in the field of artificial intelligence.
One major milestone was the UAE’s move to make AI education mandatory in schools. This began in the 2025-2026 academic year. Students now study topics such as algorithms, data science, innovation, and AI ethics from an early age.
The Stanford AI Index also praised the UAE’s strong support for AI. It said the country can exceed expectations, despite its size and population.
Falcon AI Models Propel UAE to Research Leadership
Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII) received accolades for its development of the Falcon series of AI models, notably Falcon-H1 Arabic, the first large language model to be built from the ground up for Arabic language AI applications.
The UAE has also invested heavily in AI-focused education and research institutions such as the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) that continues to attract top AI researchers and global talent. These initiatives are enabling the UAE to compete with larger global economies including the United States, China and the United Kingdom and become a regional hub for AI innovation.
UAE’s Growth Fueled by Huge AI Investments
Investments in AI infrastructure are accelerating across the UAE. The country reportedly is among the top countries in the world for AI resilience and investment readiness.
The UAE has also established international collaborations with major tech companies and governments. Export deals for advanced semiconductors and large-scale AI data center projects, which have recently been signed, are expected to take the country’s AI capabilities to a higher level.
One major project includes the development of “Stargate UAE,” a massive AI data center initiative backed by OpenAI, G42, Oracle, Nvidia, and SoftBank.
UAE Leading AI Adoption in the Workplace
AI adoption across UAE workplaces has surged dramatically over the past year. Separate reports from Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab showed the UAE leading global rankings in workplace AI usage, with AI utilization reaching some of the highest levels worldwide.
Experts say the UAE’s centralised governance model and strong policy execution and aggressive investment strategy have allowed it to deploy AI faster than many other countries.
UAE’s expanding position in global AI
The UAE’s fast AI expansion is a sign of a bigger goal to become a global tech hub beyond oil and traditional industries. Experts say the country’s combination of infrastructure spending, government backing and talent generation is creating one of the most advanced AI ecosystems in the Middle East. As the global race for AI heats up, the UAE seems determined to place itself at the heart of the next wave of tech transformation.
