The Portuguese delegation includes companies working across artificial intelligence, machine learning, health technology, and defence. This reflects the country’s growing presence in high-impact technology sectors. Together, the startups employ nearly 270 people and have raised more than €20 million in investment.
Portugal Strengthens Its Presence at Web Summit Rio
The delegation is being supported by Startup Portugal and Unicorn Factory Lisboa. These organizations are attending Web Summit Rio for the fourth consecutive year. Their presence is part of a wider effort to help Portuguese startups connect with global investors, customers, and innovation partners.
The startups are joining the event through the Business Abroad programme, which supports Portuguese companies at major international technology conferences. Unicorn Factory Lisboa is also backing the delegation through its internationalisation support programmes.
For many of these companies, Brazil represents a strategic market. Its large economy, fast-growing startup ecosystem, and cultural ties with Portugal make it a natural destination for expansion.
AI, Machine Learning, Health Tech, and Defence in Focus
The Portuguese startups attending Web Summit Rio represent some of the most active areas in today’s global technology market. AI and machine learning continue to be hot topics as companies seek new ways to automate workflows. Additionally, companies aim to improve decision making and develop scalable digital products.
The delegation also has a strong focus on health technology, demonstrating how Portuguese innovators are leveraging digital tools to tackle healthcare challenges. Defence technology, meanwhile, reflects growing interest in advanced systems and emerging technologies with security applications.
The companies in the delegation are based across Portugal, including Lisbon, Funchal, Aveiro, and Mirandela.
