Israel has launched a major new national artificial intelligence strategy aimed at cementing its position as one of the world’s leading hubs for AI innovation. The plan emphasizes growing AI talent, building advanced computing infrastructure and accelerating startup growth through research initiatives and fast-track incubator programs.

The announcement comes amid a global race by governments to control artificial intelligence technologies expected to transform industries from finance to healthcare to cybersecurity, defense and public services.

Israel pours big money into AI infrastructure

One of the main components of the plan is the building of a national AI supercomputer to give startups, researchers, universities and government agencies access to high-performance computing resources.

The project is set to be developed by AI cloud company Nebius and funded with over 500 million shekels.

According to the Israel Innovation Authority, the supercomputer will deliver large-scale computing power necessary for training advanced AI models and conducting major research projects. Officials say the initiative is intended to reduce dependence on foreign cloud providers while making AI infrastructure more accessible and affordable for local innovators.

The project represents Phase II of Israel’s National Artificial Intelligence Program, which originally launched in 2021.

    Develop AI Talent

A second important pillar of the strategy is to boost Israel’s AI workforce and educational ecosystem.

    The government intends to expand:

    • AI education programs
    • Reskilling and workforce training programs
    • Academic AI research
    • Industry partnerships
    • Advanced technical learning opportunities

Officials stressed the need for a strong pipeline of AI professionals to maintain Israel’s leadership in the global technology markets.

Israel already ranks among the world’s leading countries in AI-related private investment, startup activity, and scientific research output.

The strategy also seeks to enhance the accessibility of AI in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and public administration.

Fast-Track Programs to Aid AI Startups

Israel’s new strategy also includes fast-tracking incubator programs to help AI startups accelerate from research stages to commercial deployment.

The incubators are expected to offer:

    • Startup funding
    • Technical mentorship
    • Research support
    • Access to infrastructure
    • Commercialization guidance

The Israel Innovation Authority already runs a number of successful technology incubators focusing on sectors such as cybersecurity, healthcare, agriculture and deep tech.

The expanded AI program will also see a big push behind artificial intelligence startups and high-risk innovation projects.

Industry experts believe these efforts could further boost Israel’s reputation as the “Startup Nation.”

Israel Bolsters its Position in Global AI Race

The launch of the strategy comes amid growing international competition in artificial intelligence development.

Countries around the United States, Europe, China and the Middle East are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, regulation, research and workforce development.

Israel is one of the world’s strongest AI ecosystems, thanks to its concentration of highly skilled engineers, AI startups and multinational technology research centers run by companies such as Nvidia, Google, Microsoft and Intel.

But analysts have warned that if Israel does not spend heavily on AI infrastructure and education, it could eventually fall behind larger economies with bigger AI budgets.

Government Sees AI as National Strategic Priority

Israeli officials say artificial intelligence is vital to the country’s future economic growth, technological independence and national resilience.

The long-term objective is to position Israel as a leading global AI innovation center while ensuring businesses, universities, startups, and public institutions can fully benefit from advances in machine learning, automation, and intelligent systems.

The strategy is also expected to encourage stronger collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, private companies, and entrepreneurs as Israel accelerates its AI transformation over the next several years.
