    Zoox Robotaxi Technology and Vehicle Design

    The vehicles used in the Zoox Uber robotaxi partnership are fully autonomous electric robotaxis. Zoox designed the vehicles specifically for ride-hailing services. They do not have steering wheels or pedals.

    Each robotaxi can carry four passengers. The seating arrangement places passengers facing each other. The vehicle can travel in both directions without turning around.

    Zoox vehicles rely on cameras, radar, and LiDAR sensors. These systems support navigation and obstacle detection. The company reports more than one million autonomous miles driven. Zoox has also transported over 300,000 passengers during testing programs.

    Uber Strategy for Autonomous Ride-Hailing

    Uber continues expanding partnerships with autonomous vehicle developers. The Zoox Uber robotaxi partnership adds another company to Uber’s network of self-driving collaborators.

    Uber already works with companies including Waymo, May Mobility, and Baidu’s Apollo Go. The company aims to provide autonomous rides through its platform rather than develop its own robotaxis.
