Türkiye’s artificial intelligence ambitions are getting harder to ignore.

On September 9–10, GITEX AI Türkiye 2026 will make its debut at the Istanbul Expo Center, bringing global technology companies, startups, investors and policymakers into a market that is pouring billions into AI infrastructure and digital growth.

The timing feels deliberate. Türkiye is no longer simply talking about becoming an AI hub between Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Money is moving. Infrastructure is being built. Talent programs are expanding. International technology companies are paying attention. And Istanbul is being positioned right in the middle of it.

GITEX AI Türkiye Arrives as the Digital Economy Accelerates

Türkiye’s digital economy is valued at roughly $38 billion in 2026, while its broader ICT market is projected to approach $58 billion by 2031, according to figures reported by TECHx Media.

That growth story now has a major international technology event attached to it.

GITEX AI Türkiye will run for two days at the Istanbul Expo Center, with the official event program spanning artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data centers, fintech, quantum technology, mobility, smart manufacturing, gaming and other emerging sectors.

AI, though, sits at the center. The event’s own program points toward AI-ready infrastructure, sovereign cloud systems, trusted data environments and regulation — all areas becoming increasingly important as governments look for more control over the infrastructure powering their AI economies.

Türkiye Is Spending Billions on AI Infrastructure

The bigger story is happening outside the conference halls. Türkiye has allocated around $3 billion toward data center and AI investment in 2026, while seeking billions more from private investors as it works toward dramatically expanding national data capacity by 2030.

That infrastructure push matters. Generative AI has turned computing power, cloud capacity and data centers into strategic assets almost overnight. Countries that once focused heavily on attracting software companies are now competing for GPUs, hyperscale cloud regions, energy capacity and domestic AI infrastructure.

That same shift is visible in the rapid expansion of hyperscale AI data centers and the enormous capital flowing into compute infrastructure. Türkiye appears determined not to sit on the sidelines.

The country is also targeting a much larger AI workforce. Plans announced in 2026 include training 10,000 advanced AI specialists and 100,000 AI application professionals, according to the reporting cited by TECHx Media. This is not a small talent experiment. It points toward an effort to build an entire domestic pipeline around AI deployment.

Türkiye’s Startup Scene Is Getting Bigger — Fast

Capital is arriving too. Türkiye’s startup ecosystem reportedly attracted $559 million during the first quarter of 2026, seven times the amount raised during the corresponding period a year earlier. The country now has more than 13,000 startups alongside a large network of technoparks and R&D centers. There is another number worth watching.

Invest in Türkiye said the country has more than 1,000 AI-focused startups, with more than 300 investment transactions recorded during 2025, many involving early-stage companies. That makes GITEX AI Türkiye more than another international trade show.

For young Turkish AI companies, it creates a place to meet global investors without leaving the domestic ecosystem. For international companies, it offers an entry point into a technology market sitting between several major economic regions. That combination could be where the event gets interesting.

Global Tech Companies Are Heading to Istanbul

More than 300 enterprise and startup exhibitors are expected at GITEX AI Türkiye, with companies and delegations coming from markets across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Americas. TECHx Media reports that participating companies include names such as Google Cloud, NVIDIA, HPE, Dell Technologies, ASUS, Huawei and SAP, alongside Turkish and regional technology businesses.

Google Cloud’s involvement is particularly notable after the company announced plans for a cloud region in Türkiye as part of a long-term investment initiative with Turkcell. Cloud regions are rarely just infrastructure announcements anymore. In the generative AI race, they can determine where companies store data, train workloads and deploy increasingly demanding AI systems.

The importance of local infrastructure is becoming especially clear as companies and governments place more emphasis on data residency, local inference and sovereign AI workloads. Türkiye clearly wants more of that activity happening locally.

Investors Will Be Watching the Startup Pipeline

Startups will have another reason to show up. More than 100 investors from 20 countries, collectively managing roughly $50 billion in assets, are expected to participate, according to TECHx Media.

Local technology parks will also have a visible presence. That could give smaller AI companies from outside Istanbul and Türkiye’s largest technology centers something they often struggle to access: direct contact with international capital and enterprise buyers.

AI conferences talk constantly about ecosystems. This is where that word actually becomes measurable — startups, researchers, infrastructure providers, investors and government policy ending up in the same room. Whether meaningful deals follow is the part worth watching after September.

Istanbul’s Location May Be Part of the Strategy

Türkiye has spent years presenting itself as a geographic and commercial bridge between Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and surrounding markets. AI gives that old argument a new angle.

GITEX organizers have described Türkiye as a potential cross-border corridor for AI and digital innovation, while government investment officials have framed the event as part of a broader effort to connect domestic technology companies with global capital. Istanbul already has the geography. Now Türkiye is trying to add compute, startups, cloud infrastructure and AI talent to the equation.

GITEX AI Türkiye Could Become a Bigger Signal Than the Event Itself

The first GITEX AI Türkiye 2026 will only last two days. Its significance could stretch much further. Countries everywhere are competing to claim a larger piece of the AI economy. Some have enormous chip industries. Others have hyperscale cloud infrastructure, deep research communities or massive pools of venture capital.

Türkiye is assembling its own version of that stack. Data centers. AI training programs. Startups. International cloud investment. Government backing. Global investors.

That broader competition for AI companies, infrastructure and talent is also playing out in markets such as Dubai, where public and private-sector programs are being used to attract AI companies and accelerate adoption.

GITEX AI Türkiye gives all of those pieces a very visible meeting point. The interesting question will not be how many people walk through the Istanbul Expo Center in September. It will be what gets built after they leave.
