RingCentral is expanding its AI Receptionist with new integrations for Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp. This gives businesses more ways to automate customer conversations across calls, texts, scheduling, e-commerce, and messaging platforms.

The update is part of RingCentral’s broader push to bring “always-on” AI to customer engagement. The company says its AI Receptionist, also called AIR, can be deployed quickly to help businesses answer calls and texts. It can route customers, capture leads, and reduce missed opportunities as well.

RingCentral Expands AI Receptionist Beyond Phone Calls

RingCentral’s AI Receptionist was originally built to handle front-desk-style phone tasks. However, the latest update moves the product further into cross-channel automation.

The company says AIR now supports shared SMS inboxes and call queues, allowing businesses to respond to customers across both voice and text. For example, the AI can answer common questions, share pricing or availability, book an appointment, and pass the conversation to a staff member. This happens when human follow-up is needed.

This matters because many small and medium-sized businesses still lose leads when customers call after hours or wait too long on hold. Moreover, some customers send messages that are not answered quickly.

Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp Join the AI Workflow

The new Shopify integration allows RingCentral AI Receptionist to handle order status questions and customer support requests automatically. As a result, this turns phone-based customer service into part of the e-commerce journey. It helps online sellers answer routine questions without adding more support staff.

The Calendly integration gives AIR the ability to schedule appointments over the phone while working with the calendars, reminders, payment tools, and CRMs already connected through Calendly. That could be useful for clinics, consultants, home services, real estate teams, and other appointment-based businesses.

RingCentral is also adding WhatsApp support, allowing businesses to automate inbound WhatsApp inquiries using the same AI technology behind its phone channel. This is especially important for companies serving customers who prefer messaging instead of calling.

AI Receptionist Is Becoming a Business Automation Tool

RingCentral says more than 11,800 businesses are now using AIR to automate customer interactions and extend availability beyond normal business hours. The company also highlighted use cases across healthcare, financial services, legal, hospitality, construction, and other industries.

On its product page, RingCentral describes AI Receptionist as a tool that can automatically answer calls, send texts, book appointments, route calls with context, and handle frequently asked questions using a company’s website, FAQs, or uploaded documents.

    Why This Update Matters

The latest RingCentral AI Receptionist update shows how fast AI agents are moving from simple chatbots into practical business workflows.

Instead of only answering questions, these AI systems are starting to complete tasks. For example, they can check order status, book appointments, route calls, reply to messages, and hand off context to human workers.

For businesses, this could reduce missed calls, shorten wait times, and help teams manage more customer conversations without hiring additional staff. RingCentral says AIR can answer multiple calls at once, remain available 24/7, and support peak demand or after-hours coverage.

    The Bigger Picture

RingCentral’s expansion of AI Receptionist reflects a larger trend in enterprise AI: companies are building agents that connect directly to business tools.

RingCentral is partnering with Shopify, Calendly and WhatsApp to make AIR more than just a virtual phone assistant. It’s evolving into a front-line AI worker for customer engagement.

As companies adopt AI agents, the competition will no longer be about who has the smartest chatbot. Instead, it will be about who can automate the most useful real-world business tasks.
