Philippine Airlines has officially announced that it is joining the oneworld alliance, marking a major milestone for the flag carrier and the Philippine aviation industry.

The announcement was made during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once the membership process is completed, Philippine Airlines will become oneworld’s 16th member airline and only the second full member based in Southeast Asia.

PAL Passengers to Gain Access to Nearly 1,000 Destinations

The move will significantly expand travel options for Philippine Airlines passengers. PAL Customers will also enjoy access to the extensive oneworld global network of nearly 1,000 destinations in more than 170 countries and territories.

This partnership is also expected to bring more international travellers to the Philippines by linking them to PAL’s domestic and regional routes. The expanded network could strengthen the country’s role as a key travel hub in Southeast Asia.

Mabuhay Miles Members to Receive More Benefits

For Mabuhay Miles members, Philippine Airlines joining oneworld means more opportunities to earn and redeem miles across participating member airlines.

Top-tier PAL customers are also expected to receive access to several oneworld Priority benefits, including:

    • Access to more than 700 premium airport lounges
    • Priority check-in and boarding benefits
    • Eligible First Class lounge access
    • Eligible First Class check-in privileges
    • More seamless travel across oneworld member airlines

These benefits will give frequent PAL flyers a stronger global loyalty experience.

PAL Calls Membership a Transformative Moment

PAL Holdings, Inc. President Lucio C. Tan III described the move as a major turning point for the airline.

“This is a defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines,” Tan said. “Becoming a member of the oneworld Alliance and strengthening Southeast Asia’s representation within the group significantly brings the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before.”

He added that PAL and its future alliance partners aim to deliver more travel choices, consistent journeys, and a world-class experience shaped by Filipino hospitality.

oneworld Says PAL Strengthens Asia-Pacific Network

American Airlines CEO and oneworld Governing Board Chairman Robert Isom also welcomed Philippine Airlines into the alliance.

“PAL’s entry into oneworld supports our long-term strategic growth and strengthens our connectivity across key markets in the Asia Pacific region,” Isom said.

He added that Philippine Airlines has a strong heritage and will play a critical role in oneworld’s Southeast Asia network.

    Current oneworld Member Airlines

The oneworld alliance currently includes the following major global airlines:

    • Alaska Airlines (Including Hawaiian Airlines)
    • American Airlines
    • British Airways
    • Cathay Pacific
    • Fiji Airways
    • Finnair
    • Iberia
    • Japan Airlines
    • Malaysia Airlines
    • Oman Air
    • Philippine Airlines (Latest confirmed member as of June 2026)
    • Qantas
    • Qatar Airways
    • Royal Air Maroc
    • Royal Jordanian
    • SriLankan Airlines

With the inclusion of Philippine Airlines in the alliance, passengers can expect improved international connectivity, improved loyalty benefits, and strengthened travel ties between the Philippines and the rest of the world.

    Why This Matters

The inclusion of Philippine Airlines into oneworld is a significant milestone for PAL and Filipino travellers. The partnership will enhance international connectivity, increase loyalty benefits and make it easier for international travellers to explore the Philippines.

PAL said the move further cements its position in the global aviation market, and places the Philippines more squarely within one of the world’s leading airline alliances.
