Marriott unveils AI search tool Ask Bonvoy to revolutionize travel planning

Marriott International is bringing artificial intelligence deeper into the travel-booking process with the beta launch of Ask Bonvoy. This new AI-powered search tool aims to help travelers find hotels and plan trips through natural-language conversations.

The new feature enables users to search through Marriott’s global portfolio in a more intuitive way, beyond traditional hotel search filters such as destination, travel dates and room availability. In addition, travelers can now describe what they are looking for in normal language such as reason for their trip, preferred amenities, destination style or the type of experience they are after.

    What Is Ask Bonvoy?

Ask Bonvoy is a conversational AI search experience built for Marriott Bonvoy members and travelers using Marriott’s digital platforms. The tool is designed to understand natural language prompts and return personalized hotel and destination suggestions from Marriott’s portfolio.

Rather than requiring users to know exactly where they want to stay, Ask Bonvoy can help guide discovery. For example, a traveler could search for properties based on interests such as dining, spa experiences, golf, family travel, beach escapes, or business needs.

Marriott says the tool is powered by its own proprietary AI architecture and uses verified Marriott property data. Therefore, this means the results are based on Marriott’s owned information rather than open web content. This could help improve accuracy when users are comparing hotel features, amenities, and experiences.

Ask Bonvoy Begins With a Limited Beta Rollout

The Ask Bonvoy AI search feature is launching first in beta and will initially be available in U.S. English. Marriott is making it accessible on Marriott.com and through the Marriott Bonvoy mobile apps for iOS and Android.

At launch, access will be limited to a subset of Marriott Bonvoy members and users who sign up for the Marriott Bonvoy program. Marriott says the phased rollout will allow the company to collect feedback, improve performance, and scale the technology gradually. Eventually, this will happen before a wider global release later this year.

How Ask Bonvoy Changes Hotel Searching

Conventional hotel booking tools usually require travelers to start with a destination and date. Ask Bonvoy is designed to support a more flexible discovery process.

For example, instead of searching only by city, a user may be able to describe the type of trip they want. The AI then can read the request, know what the traveler wants and bring up the relevant Marriott properties that meet the request.

The feature is meant to be a supplement to the current search tools that Marriott offers, not a replacement. Users can still perform traditional searches by date, location and filters. However, they can also use conversational prompts for a more natural exploration.

Once a user finds a suitable property through Ask Bonvoy, the experience connects them to Marriott’s existing booking system. This makes it easy to complete the reservation.

    Marriott Expands Its AI Strategy

The launch of Ask Bonvoy reflects a larger push by Marriott to modernize its digital travel experience with artificial intelligence.

The company has already introduced natural language search on its Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy platform, and it is also working with major technology companies on AI-related travel initiatives. Marriott says future versions of Ask Bonvoy will support more advanced capabilities, including searches based on loyalty points.

This could be especially useful for Marriott Bonvoy members who want to compare hotels not only by location and amenities, but also by how they can use points for upcoming stays.

    Why This Matters

Ask Bonvoy is a good example of how AI is playing a big role in the next phase of the travel industry. For hotel brands, conversational search could make planning a trip simpler, faster and more personalized. Meanwhile, for travelers, it could reduce the friction of navigating large hotel portfolios and help discover properties that fit specific travel objectives.

Marriott operates roughly 10,000 properties across 146 countries and territories, so Ask Bonvoy has a lot of hotel data to work with. If the tool performs well during beta, it could become a major way that Marriott Bonvoy members find and book future trips.

The Bigger Picture for Travel AI

AI-powered search is fast becoming a differentiator in travel and hospitality. Travelers want digital experiences that understand intent, offer relevant suggestions and make planning easier.

Marriott is positioning itself as one of the major hospitality brands to harness AI for customer-facing discovery and booking experiences. The company is not just using AI for back-end operations, but also launching this with Ask Bonvoy.

As tech improves, AI travel assistants might become a standard feature of hotel search. This would take users from big-picture travel ideas to confirmed bookings in fewer steps.

For now, Ask Bonvoy remains in beta. But Marriott’s rollout suggests conversational AI isn’t merely an experimental feature in travel anymore, it’s becoming part of the booking journey itself.
