Leidos and OpenAI announced a partnership to deploy artificial intelligence solutions intended to transform federal operations. The collaboration focuses on building and scaling AI tools that can support agency missions in defense, health, and civilian programs.

    Partnership goals

Leidos said the work with OpenAI will help federal customers adopt generative AI and other advanced systems in ways that improve productivity, decision-making, and mission outcomes. The companies plan to combine Leidos’s experience in government technology implementation with OpenAI’s AI models and research capabilities.

    Focus areas for federal operations

The partnership will explore AI applications across several areas within the U.S. federal government. These include defense operations, public health systems, research support, administrative processes, and other mission-critical functions. The goal is to reduce manual effort, accelerate analysis, and increase operational effectiveness.

    AI tools and integration

Leidos and OpenAI said they will work on integrating AI models into secure federal computing environments. The solutions will adhere to federal security and compliance standards. Teams will co-develop tools that help analysts, program staff, and leaders work with AI insights while maintaining oversight and control.

    Workforce and skills development

Part of the collaboration includes training federal personnel to use AI tools responsibly and effectively. Leidos plans to support workforce development initiatives that help users understand model outputs, manage AI workflows, and apply best practices for trustworthy AI use.

    Security and governance

The partners stressed that AI deployments will emphasize security, privacy, and ethical considerations. Solutions will be designed with guardrails to protect sensitive information and comply with federal policies. The companies aim to align AI governance with legal requirements and mission needs.

    Implementation and rollout

Leidos said early engagements under the partnership are already underway with select federal agencies. The companies will continue to expand deployments and refine tools based on user feedback. The initiative seeks to demonstrate measurable value as use cases scale.

    Conclusion

Leidos and OpenAI are collaborating to bring advanced AI technologies into federal operations, focusing on mission impact, secure integration, and workforce enablement across defense, health, and civilian agencies.
