Hotels have experimented with AI chatbots for years. Dextr AI is betting the bigger opportunity sits deeper inside the property — answering reservation calls, coordinating staff, managing guest requests and handling the operational work that rarely stops.
The San Francisco startup has raised $6.7 million in seed funding as it expands its AI agent platform for the hospitality industry. Elevation Capital led the round, with Foundation Capital participating. The financing marks Dextr AI’s first institutional funding round.
Founded by Sajid Shariff and Scott Arnold, Dextr AI is building specialized AI agents that work across different parts of hotel operations. Rather than deploying one general-purpose assistant, the company connects agents designed for reservations, guest communications, staffing, back-office processes, sales and marketing.
The idea is simple enough. Hotels already use plenty of software. Dextr wants AI to do more than sit beside those systems. It wants agents to work across them.
Dextr AI Started With a Hotel Guest Agent
Dextr AI grew from a practical hospitality problem rather than an attempt to launch another general-purpose AI platform. Shariff returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2024 and reconnected with people in the hotel industry. Staffing shortages, rising labor costs and pressure to increase revenue remained common concerns across properties.
He began developing an AI agent for a small number of hotels to see whether automation could take some of that pressure off employees. That early product eventually became Alfred, an AI guest agent designed to handle communications, guest requests, upselling, service recovery and contactless check-ins.
According to Shariff, the first hotels using the system saw improvements in online reviews within 90 days. The early deployments also showed the company that guest messaging was only one part of the opportunity. Hotel operations include reservations, housekeeping, staff coordination, payments and dozens of other workflows that often overlap.
Shariff later partnered with Arnold, and the pair founded Dextr AI in July 2025. From there, the company began turning its initial guest-facing product into a wider network of hospitality-focused AI agents.
Voice AI Turns Hotel Calls Into Bookings
Dextr’s expansion soon moved into hotel phone reservations through Daisy, its voice AI reservation agent. The system is designed to answer incoming calls, respond to booking questions, modify reservations and convert phone inquiries into confirmed stays.
Phone calls still matter in hospitality. Guests often call when they cannot find a specific room online, need special arrangements or want confirmation before making a reservation. When hotel staff miss those calls, the property may also miss the booking.
Dextr says Daisy can book and modify reservations autonomously, provide upsell options, communicate in more than 90 languages and support voice-based payment interactions. That moves the product beyond the traditional idea of an automated answering service.
Shariff told Crunchbase News that one large hotel using the company’s voice technology processes between $100,000 and $300,000 in monthly bookings through the agent. The figure was provided by Dextr and has not been independently disclosed through financial reporting.
The important point for Dextr is that voice AI is being positioned as a revenue tool, not simply a way to reduce the number of calls reaching a front desk.
Dextr AI Agents Can Work Across Hotel Departments
The more interesting part of Dextr’s platform appears when its agents begin sharing information and triggering actions across different hotel workflows.
A guest, for example, might tell the system that housekeeping is not required that day. A guest-facing AI agent can capture that request and pass the information into the hotel’s operational workflow. That could allow the property to adjust housekeeping tasks without requiring an employee to manually transfer the request between systems.
Late arrivals create another use case. At a hotel without a full overnight front-desk team, a guest could contact Daisy after arriving. The voice agent could verify the booking, provide arrival instructions and work with Alfred to support the remaining check-in process.
This connected-agent approach sits at the center of Dextr’s strategy. Instead of treating every AI interaction as an isolated conversation, the company wants information gathered by one agent to influence what happens elsewhere in the property.
That is where agentic AI starts looking less like a chatbot and more like an operational layer.
Doss Gives Hotel Staff a Natural-Language Control Layer
Adding multiple AI agents creates another challenge. Hotel employees still need a simple way to control them.
Dextr addresses that through Doss, a natural-language interface that serves as a command layer across its platform. Instead of requiring staff to navigate complicated menus, employees can communicate with the system using normal voice or text instructions.
Dextr says Doss can help coordinate staff, manage communications, execute operational tasks, monitor performance and apply rules for alerts or escalations. Hotels can also configure how agents respond based on their own operating procedures, service standards and brand requirements.
That could be particularly relevant in hospitality, where employee turnover and seasonal staffing often make software training an ongoing problem. A conversational interface may reduce the amount of time workers need to spend learning another dashboard or operating system.
Shariff argues that allowing employees to simply talk or type instructions to the platform makes AI easier to fit into existing hotel routines.
Dextr Connects With Existing Hotel Technology
Dextr is not asking hotels to replace their entire technology stack. Instead, its agents are designed to connect with systems properties already use.
According to Crunchbase News, Dextr integrates with hospitality platforms including Oracle Hospitality, OPERA Cloud, Stayntouch, Cloudbeds and Hostaway. Its technology can also work with property management systems, payment processors and other operational platforms used by hotels.
The company takes a hands-on approach to deploying those integrations. Engineers work with hotel operators to understand reservation processes, staffing practices, guest workflows and other day-to-day operations before deciding where an AI agent could make sense.
That matters because hotel operations vary significantly from one property to another. A small independent hotel may have a completely different staffing structure and guest journey from a large resort or branded property.
Dextr AI Processes More Than 1 Million Monthly Interactions
Dextr says its AI agents now handle more than 1 million interactions every month across hundreds of hospitality properties.
Its customers range from independent hotels to properties operating under major brands such as Hilton, Wyndham, Best Western and IHG. Dextr generally works with the owners or operators of those properties, which does not necessarily mean it has direct agreements with the hotel brands themselves.
The platform is also moving beyond traditional hotels. Dextr says its technology can support reservation centers, vacation rentals, resorts, campgrounds, RV parks, lodges, golf courses and property-management companies.
The company uses a subscription model based on the property and AI agents being deployed, while some services also include usage-based pricing.
Dextr has not publicly disclosed its revenue, profitability or valuation. Shariff told Crunchbase News that annual recurring revenue has recently been growing by around 20% to 30% month over month, although the company did not provide the underlying revenue numbers.
$6.7M Seed Round Will Support Dextr AI Expansion
The new $6.7 million seed round gives Dextr additional capital to develop its hospitality AI platform and expand the team behind it.
Elevation Capital led the financing, while Foundation Capital also participated. Dextr plans to hire more engineers, build additional software integrations and develop new specialized AI agents for hospitality businesses.
The company has already increased its headcount significantly. Crunchbase News reported that Dextr grew from roughly three employees about a year ago to 21 people.
Elevation Capital pointed to the company’s customer adoption and early revenue impact as reasons behind its investment. Dextr had also secured contracted properties before raising institutional capital, giving investors some evidence that hotels were willing to use the technology in live environments.
The larger test will be whether those deployments continue to work as the company grows. Hotel operations leave little room for unreliable automation. A failed chatbot answer is frustrating. A failed reservation, payment or check-in workflow can create a much larger problem.
Hospitality Is Becoming a Real-World Test for Agentic AI
Hospitality is emerging as an interesting environment for agentic AI because hotels produce a constant stream of repetitive but connected tasks.
Reservation calls, check-ins, housekeeping requests, room changes, maintenance issues, upselling, staffing decisions and guest complaints can all interact with one another. Automating a single task can save time. Connecting several of those workflows through AI agents could have a much larger operational effect.
Dextr’s platform reflects that shift. The AI is not limited to a small chat window waiting for someone to ask a question. Its agents are being connected to the systems where reservations, staffing and guest services actually happen.
There are still open questions around reliability, integrations and how easily the model can scale across properties with very different operating systems and service standards.
Even so, Dextr’s seed round highlights a broader direction in enterprise AI. Companies are moving beyond assistants that simply generate answers and toward AI agents expected to complete tasks, coordinate workflows and operate inside real businesses.
