AI in Saudi Arabia 2030: Shaping Development Pathways for a New Age Artificial intelligence is entering a new phase of national significance. By 2030, AI is expected to go beyond isolated tools and individual use cases. Instead, it will become part of connected national systems that support economic growth, digital transformation, public services and enterprise innovation.

This key discussion will be addressed in the panel session “Meet AI in 2030: Transforming Development Pathways for a New Era in Saudi Arabia.” The session will look into how AI in 2030 can revolutionize development models, improve sovereign technology capacities and ready governments and businesses for the next phase of digital progress.

AI in 2030: From standalone tools to national systems

Today many organizations are using AI for automation, analytics, customer service and productivity. But the future of AI will not be separate tools operating in isolation. Instead, AI in 2030 will likely operate as part of larger, connected systems.

Saudi Arabia, for example, could see AI bolster national planning, government services, financial systems, digital platforms, smart infrastructure and business continuity. In turn, AI will be increasingly integrated into how institutions make decisions, deliver services and react to future challenges.

The move also echoes a larger international trend. Countries are no longer looking at AI only as a business technology. They are treating it as a strategic national capability.

    Why Sovereign AI Infrastructure Matters

One of the key themes of the panel is the growing importance of sovereign AI infrastructure. As AI becomes embedded in national development, countries are taking more sovereignty over their data, models, platforms and computing infrastructure.

Sovereign AI infrastructure enables countries to decrease reliance on imported technology. It also enables governments to protect sensitive data, align AI systems with local regulations, and develop solutions that reflect national priorities.

This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s wider digital transformation aspirations, and also helps the Kingdom build its capacity to develop AI systems that can serve public institutions, private enterprises, and citizens in a secure and scalable manner.

Developing the Skills for AI-Enabled Development

AI transformation is not only about technology, but also about people with the right skills.

Governments and businesses need to start planning for the demands of 2030, including building expertise in AI governance, data quality, cybersecurity, business continuity, digital experience, machine learning operations and responsible AI deployment.

Future-ready organizations will need to develop both technical and leadership capabilities to understand the impact of AI on policy, customer experience, financial resilience and operational strategy.

Early development of these skills aids institutions in the transition from initial AI adoption to sustainable AI-enabled development.

    What AI-Enabled Development Looks Like

Conventional development models often depend on manual processes, disconnected systems and sluggish decision-making. AI-enabled development, on the other hand, employs intelligent systems to improve speed, accuracy and agility.

This includes smarter public services, predictive risk management, automated business processes, AI-powered financial operations, and more personalized digital experiences. Additionally, AI can assist organisations to react faster to change while driving efficiency across sectors.

In Saudi Arabia, AI-driven development can spark innovation in government, banking, digital platforms, tech services and national infrastructure. It can also help create a more connected and intelligent economy by 2030.

    Panel Discussion Details

The session will be moderated by Abdulelah Alshareef, Principal, Venture Capital at Merak Capital.

    Panelists include:

    • Nawwaf Almutairi, Director of Digital Platforms Quality & Digital Experience, Government Entity
    • Abdulrahman Alonaizan, Chief Business Continuity Officer, Arab National Bank
    • Ian Mahoney, Chief Technology Officer, webook.com
    • Talal Albakr, Country Lead, Scale AI

Together, the speakers will discuss how AI in 2030 will transform national development, enterprise readiness, and digital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

    Saudi Arabia’s AI Future

Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a major force in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and innovation. “AI will be a major part of the future development trajectories as the country continues on its transformation path.”

So the discussion around AI in 2030 is not merely about technology. It is about how countries embed intelligence into their systems, enhance digital sovereignty, and ready people and organizations for a new age.

As AI gets more interconnected, more strategic and more deeply embedded in national systems, countries that invest early in infrastructure, governance and skills will be better placed to lead the next phase of global development.
