NVIDIA and IREN Limited have announced a major strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the global buildout of next-generation AI infrastructure.

The companies said the partnership could support the deployment of up to 5 gigawatts of NVIDIA DSX-aligned AI infrastructure across IREN’s global data center pipeline over time. In addition, the deal is designed to expand access to large-scale AI computing for AI-native startups, enterprises, and other customers. These customers need massive compute capacity.

What the NVIDIA and IREN Partnership Includes

Under the agreement, NVIDIA and IREN plan to collaborate on deploying NVIDIA accelerated computing inside DSX AI factories. These AI factories are designed to support the heavy computing demands of training and running advanced AI models.

As part of the partnership, IREN also issued NVIDIA a five-year right to purchase up to 30 million ordinary shares at an exercise price of $70 per share. That gives NVIDIA the right to invest up to $2.1 billion. However, this is subject to conditions including regulatory requirements.

Sweetwater Campus Expected to Be a Flagship AI Factory

A major focus of the partnership will be IREN’s 2-gigawatt Sweetwater campus in Texas. The companies expect this site to serve as a flagship deployment site for NVIDIA’s DSX architecture.

IREN’s website lists Sweetwater as a Texas facility under construction with 2,000 MW of capacity across 2,200 acres. This makes it one of the company’s largest planned infrastructure sites.

    Why This Matters for AI

AI infrastructure has become one of the most important battlegrounds in the technology industry. As companies build larger AI models and roll out AI-powered products, they need more GPUs, more power, more networking capacity, and more data center space.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said AI factories are becoming foundational infrastructure for the global economy. He added that deploying them at scale requires integration across compute, networking, software, power, and operations.

That is where IREN fits into the strategy. The company describes itself as a vertically integrated AI cloud provider with data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. These centers are supported by grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe, and APAC.

IREN’s Role in the AI Data Center Race

IREN has positioned itself as a major AI infrastructure provider. Its platform offers AI cloud services, colocation, and build-to-suit data center solutions. The company says its infrastructure supports demanding AI training and inference workloads. NVIDIA reference architecture also powers the platform.

IREN also says its data centers connect directly to the grid and run on 100% renewable energy. The company uses clean or renewable energy sources and supports some operations with renewable energy certificates.

    The Bigger Picture

The NVIDIA and IREN partnership shows how quickly the AI infrastructure race is scaling. Instead of focusing only on chips, the next phase of AI competition is about complete systems: GPUs, data centers, power, networking, cooling, software, and operations working together.

If the partnership reaches its full target of up to 5 gigawatts, it could become one of the largest AI infrastructure buildouts tied to NVIDIA’s ecosystem.

For the AI industry, the message is clear: the future of artificial intelligence will not just depend on better models — it will depend on the massive physical infrastructure needed to run them.
