Web Summit Rio 2026 Sets New Record with 40,287 Attendees as AI Startups Shine Web Summit Rio 2026 has kicked off its most attended event to date. It has welcomed a record 40,287 attendees from over 100 countries. Brazil is cementing its place as a leading destination for technology, startups, and artificial intelligence.

The event’s fourth edition, held at Rio Centro from June 8 to June 11, also saw a record 1,572 startups and 688 investors participate. This strong turnout reflects growing global interest in Latin America’s technology ecosystem. In particular, artificial intelligence continues to reshape how companies build products, attract funding, and scale internationally.

AI and Machine Learning Dominate Startup Participation

AI and machine learning were among the most represented sectors at Web Summit Rio 2026, alongside fintech, SaaS, healthtech, and wellness. The prominence of AI-focused startups is a testament to how artificial intelligence is becoming a core force in global entrepreneurship.

The event offers founders a place to meet investors, form partnerships, and showcase products to technology leaders, media, and potential customers. For investors, the scale of startup participation signals that innovation is alive and well. This comes despite a broader malaise in the global technology market.

The event’s startup program grew by 12% compared with the 2025 edition. This shows continued momentum for early-stage companies across Brazil, Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Major Technology Companies Join Web Summit Rio

Some of the world’s largest technology companies are also participating in Web Summit Rio 2026. For example, Dell, IBM, OpenAI, Oracle, AWS, Google, and Replit are among the companies exhibiting and presenting new technologies across the event floor.

Speakers from OpenAI, Meta, Nvidia, IBM, Microsoft, Huawei, Google, and Replit are joining founders, investors, policymakers, and business leaders to discuss the future of technology. Their presence reinforces Web Summit Rio’s growing role as a meeting point for global tech companies and emerging markets.

    Robotics Takes the Stage

One of the most notable moments from opening night was the appearance of the G1 humanoid robot from Unitree. The 132-centimetre robot and the Go2W wheeled-leg robot dog showed the evolution of consumer robotics in 2026.

The robotics display is part of a larger trend: AI is moving out of software and into physical systems. As a result, from humanoid robots to automated assistants, the next stage of artificial intelligence may increasingly involve machines that can operate in real-world environments.

Startup Funding Momentum Builds in Latin America

Web Summit Rio data shows that since the event’s first edition in 2023, 192 startups from its Startup Programme have collectively raised $487.2 million. This shows the increasing importance of startup events as an entry point to capital, partnerships, and international visibility.

Leading investment firms such as Kaszek, Monashees, SoftBank Group, Hummingbird Ventures and Prosus are attending this year’s event. Their presence highlights that global investors are keeping a close eye on Latin America for the next wave of breakout technology companies.

Women Founders Still a Major Part of the Event

Women-led startups continue to play an important role at Web Summit Rio 2026, with 43% of participating startups having a woman founder. Additionally, the event’s Women in Tech programme supports greater participation through networking opportunities, discounted tickets and dedicated meetups.

Women-centric events include women investors meetups, women working in AI optimization, mothers building in tech, among others. These initiatives aim to increase access, visibility, and community support for women in the startup ecosystem.

Why Web Summit Rio 2026 is a Big Deal for AI

The strong attendance at Web Summit Rio 2026 speaks to the continued global appetite for AI, startups, and digital transformation. Even with the layoffs and economic headwinds in the broader tech industry, there seems to be a rise in activity from founders.

Solo founders are also becoming more visible. AI coding tools, automation platforms, and “vibe coding” products are allowing individuals and small teams to build companies with less. This trend could reshape how startups are created and scaled over the next several years.

A Growing Technology Hub for Brazil and Latin America

Web Summit Rio has attracted more than 130,000 attendees and 5,000 startups across its first four editions. As a result, it has become one of the region’s most important technology gatherings.

For Brazil, the event boosts Rio de Janeiro’s profile as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and global technology investment. Meanwhile, it shows the wider AI industry that emerging markets are gaining influence in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

As Web Summit Rio 2026 continues, AI startups, robotics demos, big tech companies, and global investors are likely to dominate the discussion.
