Italian private equity firm Quadrivio Group has acquired Milan-based Dev4Side through its Artificial Intelligence PE Fund, marking the Quadrivio Dev4Side acquisition and adding another technology business to its growing portfolio as it works toward building a €100 million Italian AI group.
The acquisition brings Dev4Side into Lucient Group, Quadrivio’s technology platform focused on artificial intelligence, enterprise software and digital transformation. The group aims to generate more than €100 million in annual revenue within three years.
With Dev4Side joining the business, Lucient’s combined annual revenue stands at approximately €40 million. The group also reports double-digit profit margins, giving Quadrivio a stronger foundation for further expansion.
The deal reflects a broader shift in Europe’s technology investment market. Rather than building AI companies entirely from scratch, investors are increasingly looking at established software businesses that already serve enterprise customers and have the technical expertise to introduce AI into everyday operations.
Dev4Side Adds Enterprise AI and Software Development Expertise
Founded in 2011, Dev4Side has built its business around custom software development, artificial intelligence and Microsoft’s enterprise technology ecosystem. The Milan-based company helps organisations develop digital applications, modernise IT infrastructure and introduce automation into their operations.
Its business includes Dev4Side Software and Intranet.ai, two operations serving different parts of the enterprise technology market. Dev4Side Software focuses on software engineering, cloud services, cybersecurity and AI-enabled applications. Intranet.ai develops digital workplace solutions designed around Microsoft 365.
Together, the businesses employ approximately 80 professionals. Their experience in Microsoft Azure, enterprise applications and AI integration gives Lucient additional technical capabilities as demand for business automation continues to grow.
For Quadrivio, Dev4Side offers more than an expanded customer base. The company brings software development expertise that can complement the services already offered by other Lucient businesses, potentially allowing the group to handle larger and more complex enterprise technology projects.
Lucient Group Expands Its Position in Italy’s AI Market
Lucient Group serves as the central platform for Quadrivio’s investments in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. The business has been expanding through acquisitions, bringing together Italian technology companies with complementary capabilities.
Before acquiring Dev4Side, the group had already added Pipeline, ONE4 and MDM Consulting. Those businesses contributed expertise in enterprise software, systems integration, data management and digital services.
Dev4Side strengthens that portfolio with additional software engineering resources and Microsoft-focused AI capabilities. Its inclusion also increases Lucient’s ability to offer services across different stages of an organisation’s technology transformation, from infrastructure development to AI-powered applications.
The combined group now generates approximately €40 million in annual revenue, although Quadrivio has set a considerably higher target. Reaching €100 million will require additional growth, both through future acquisitions and the expansion of existing business operations.
Quadrivio also sees opportunities beyond Italy. As European companies increase spending on artificial intelligence and enterprise automation, Lucient could use its combined technical expertise to pursue customers in other markets.
Microsoft’s Technology Ecosystem Supports Quadrivio’s AI Strategy
Microsoft plays an important role in Quadrivio’s investment strategy, particularly through its relationship with the Artificial Intelligence PE Fund. The technology company serves as a strategic technology partner, supporting the fund’s efforts to accelerate AI adoption across its portfolio.
Quadrivio launched the fund in November 2024 with a fundraising target of €300 million. Its investment focus includes business-to-business technology companies operating in artificial intelligence, enterprise software, cybersecurity and advanced industrial applications.
The fund follows two main investment approaches. Its AI Enablers strategy focuses on businesses that provide the technologies and services needed for AI adoption. Its Vertical AI Applied strategy targets companies that integrate artificial intelligence into specific industries, products and business processes.
Dev4Side fits naturally into the first category. Its experience with Microsoft Azure, cloud infrastructure and custom AI applications gives Quadrivio another business capable of helping enterprises move from AI experimentation toward practical deployment.
That distinction matters. Many companies have tested generative AI tools, but integrating those systems with existing software, business data and internal workflows remains a much larger technical challenge.
Dev4Side Founders Stay Involved Following Acquisition
Dev4Side’s founders, Giuseppe Marchi and Miro Radenovic, will remain involved in the business following the acquisition. Both have reinvested in Lucient Group and will continue holding managerial responsibilities.
Their continued participation provides operational continuity while Dev4Side becomes part of a larger technology organisation. It also aligns their financial interests with Lucient’s long-term expansion.
Retaining experienced leadership can be particularly important in software acquisitions. Much of a technology company’s value comes from its employees, technical knowledge and relationships with enterprise customers.
Quadrivio will need to preserve those strengths while encouraging greater collaboration between Dev4Side and the other companies within Lucient.
The arrangement also gives Dev4Side’s management an opportunity to participate in a larger business with access to additional investment capital, technical resources and potential international customers.
Italy’s Fragmented Technology Market Creates Opportunities for AI Investment
Italy has a sizeable network of software developers, IT consultancies and systems integration businesses. Many specialise in particular technologies or industries, but their relatively small scale can make it difficult to compete for larger enterprise contracts.
Quadrivio sees an opportunity to bring these companies together. By combining businesses with complementary technical strengths, the investment firm aims to create a technology group capable of offering broader services while retaining specialist expertise.
The Dev4Side acquisition fits that strategy. Instead of developing every capability internally, Lucient can expand through companies that already have established products, engineering teams and customer relationships.
The approach also reflects changing enterprise demand. Businesses increasingly want technology providers that can connect cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management and AI applications rather than deliver each service separately.
Still, acquisitions alone will not guarantee success. Quadrivio must integrate different teams, systems and business practices without weakening the qualities that made the acquired companies attractive in the first place.
Quadrivio Targets €100 Million in Revenue Within Three Years
Quadrivio’s longer-term ambition is to establish Lucient as a major Italian provider of digital services and artificial intelligence solutions. The company aims to exceed €100 million in annual revenue within three years, building on the approximately €40 million generated by the enlarged group.
The acquisition of Dev4Side represents an early step in that expansion plan. Future growth could come from additional acquisitions, stronger collaboration between Lucient’s existing companies and increased demand for enterprise AI solutions.
The strategy places particular emphasis on proprietary technologies, including agentic AI systems developed within Microsoft’s technology ecosystem. These systems are designed to handle more complex business tasks, potentially allowing organisations to automate processes that previously required substantial manual coordination.
Lucient’s challenge now is to translate those capabilities into commercial growth. Companies are showing considerable interest in AI, but customers still need evidence that new systems can improve productivity, reduce costs or deliver measurable business value.
For Quadrivio, the next few years will test whether its acquisition-led strategy can turn a collection of specialist Italian technology businesses into a larger, competitive AI services group. Dev4Side adds useful expertise, but reaching the €100 million target will depend on how effectively the businesses grow together.
