Sharjah is moving faster toward an AI-powered public sector after Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, ordered the accelerated integration of artificial intelligence assistants across government operations.

The directive aims to improve government efficiency, raise the quality of public services, and support Sharjah’s wider transition toward an AI-assisted government model.

    Sharjah Accelerates AI-Enabled Government Services

The emirate is integrating artificial intelligence into the heart of its digital transformation strategy. Sharjah intends to deploy AI assistants within government operations to speed up departmental processes. Additionally, they seek to enhance citizen engagement and improve service delivery.

AI assistants can help government bodies by automating routine tasks, organizing information, improving response times and assisting employees in decision-making processes. For citizens and residents, this could eventually result in faster access to services. Moreover, it may mean more efficient communication with government departments.

Sharjah Digital Department to Head AI Assistant Programme

The Sharjah Digital Department has been mandated to spearhead the Sharjah AI Assistant Programme in collaboration with government departments.

The programme will focus on laying the right foundations for AI adoption, setting out priorities and allowing government departments to embed AI assistants faster across their operations.

The coordinated approach is expected to ensure that AI tools are coming online in a coordinated way. Therefore, they will not come online in isolation, but as part of a broader government-wide strategy.

    Working with private sector, academia

The Crown Prince also directed the initiative to include increased collaboration with the private sector, academic institutions and the wider community.

The partnership is designed to support innovation, sustainability and the development of national capabilities. Furthermore, it will allow Sharjah to access specialist expertise as it expands the use of AI technologies in public administration.

Sharjah is engaging with universities, businesses and community stakeholders. They are framing AI adoption as a collective transformation effort, not just a technical upgrade for government.

A Human-Centric Approach to Digital Transformation

Sharjah’s latest AI mandate reflects the emirate’s commitment to a human-centric approach to digital transformation.

Rather than replacing people, the adoption of AI assistants is expected to assist government workers. Consequently, it will improve performance and enable talent to benefit from smarter digital tools.

The initiative also supports Sharjah’s overarching objective of strengthening digital sovereignty. It enables the deployment of advanced technologies in line with local priorities, regulatory standards and long-term development objectives.

    Sharjah’s AI government vision

The rapid adoption of AI assistants is a sign of the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence by governments across the UAE to modernize public services.

“What we are doing in Sharjah is not just introducing new technology but also creating the right environment for responsible innovation by building internal capabilities, encouraging cross-sector cooperation and improving the quality of services delivered to the public.

Sharjah’s AI Assistant Programme could be a leading example of how public sector institutions can leverage intelligent tools to increase productivity. Thus, it may allow them to provide services and build digital resilience as AI becomes more embedded in government.

    Why it matters

Sharjah’s push to fast-track the use of AI assistants in government work reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in public administration.

This is important because AI is no longer seen as a technology of the future. Instead, it is becoming a practical tool for improving how governments function, the speed of services delivered, and the responsiveness of public institutions to citizens and residents.

The move also underscores the UAE’s greater aspiration to become a global frontrunner in AI adoption, digital government and smart public services.
