Meta is putting AI wearables into the hands of UAE developers.
The technology company has joined forces with the UAE Cyber Security Council and Startupbootcamp to launch Wearables Studio UAE, a new initiative focused on building artificial intelligence experiences for wearable devices.
Unveiled at GISEC Global 2026, the programme is designed for students, developers, entrepreneurs and startups across the UAE. Participants will receive technical training, mentorship and practical exposure to Meta’s smart glasses ecosystem.
The launch comes as AI starts moving beyond the familiar chatbot window. Cameras, microphones and wearable sensors are becoming part of the interface, allowing AI systems to respond to what users see and hear in the real world.
Wearables Studio UAE Opens Meta’s AI Glasses Ecosystem to Developers
Wearables Studio UAE is positioned as a dedicated innovation and talent development programme focused on AI-powered wearable technology. Participants will get the chance to work with Meta’s wearable ecosystem, including Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart glasses, while receiving guidance from technical experts.
The initiative gives developers a more direct route into a category that is still relatively new. Instead of building only for phones or desktops, participants can explore applications that make use of cameras, microphones, audio and contextual information from wearable devices.
Meta’s Wearables Device Access Toolkit already allows developers to connect supported smart glasses with mobile applications. This opens the door to hands-free experiences that react to a user’s surroundings rather than relying only on typed commands.
Five Areas Will Shape the UAE Wearable AI Challenge
The programme will focus on several practical areas where wearable AI could have a clear role. These include tourism and cultural heritage, healthcare, education, Arabic AI assistants and smart retail.
The categories leave plenty of space for experimentation. A tourism application, for example, could use visual recognition to identify landmarks and provide contextual information. Education tools could support hands-free learning, while retail applications could connect visual search with product discovery.

Cybersecurity Is Being Built Into the Programme Early

That makes privacy and data handling difficult to treat as an afterthought. Wearables Studio UAE is placing cybersecurity and user trust into the programme from the beginning, with the UAE Cyber Security Council involved as a national partner.
Participants will therefore be encouraged to think beyond what an application can do. They will also need to consider permissions, secure data use and how AI-powered features should behave around people, workplaces and private environments.
Startupbootcamp Will Run the Programme on the Ground
Startupbootcamp will oversee the implementation of Wearables Studio UAE, including participant selection, workshops, mentorship and programme activities.
The initiative is expected to move through several stages, beginning with ideation and technical learning before progressing into development and pitching. Participants will be able to refine their concepts with support from mentors and technical specialists before presenting their work.
The programme is also expected to culminate in a final showcase connected to GITEX Global 2026. Selected teams will compete for a share of a $10,000 prize pool, adding a commercial element to what is primarily a development and talent-building initiative.
Meta Is Giving Developers More Ways to Build for AI Glasses
Meta has been expanding the tools available to developers who want to build applications around its smart glasses.
The company’s Wearables Device Access Toolkit allows developers to connect supported glasses with iOS and Android applications. Depending on the device and development environment, applications can make use of camera input, audio, photo capture and video streaming.
Meta also provides development tools that can help teams test wearable experiences before deploying them to physical hardware. That could lower the barrier for developers who want to experiment with AI glasses without immediately investing in a large hardware setup.

AI Wearables Are Becoming More Than a Hardware Story
Smart glasses have been around for years, but generative and multimodal AI are changing what these devices can actually do.
A wearable device that can process visual and audio information has the potential to understand parts of the user’s surroundings in real time. That changes the interaction model.
