Eurostar Launches ChatGPT App, Bringing AI-Powered Rail Search to European Travelers

Eurostar is putting train search directly inside ChatGPT. The international rail operator has launched an official Eurostar ChatGPT app, giving travelers a new way to look up European rail journeys without starting on a conventional booking website or mobile app.

Users can ask ChatGPT about routes, departure times, journey lengths and available fares in ordinary language. Once they find a suitable trip, they are directed to Eurostar’s website to finish the booking. It is a fairly simple idea. But the numbers behind Eurostar’s decision make the launch more interesting.

Eurostar Becomes the First Rail Operator With a ChatGPT App

Eurostar says it is the first rail operator to offer this kind of ChatGPT experience across the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands as part of a wider European rollout.

Travelers can connect their ChatGPT account to the Eurostar app and then search by typing or speaking naturally. Instead of working through several search fields, someone could ask for a weekend train from London to Paris, compare Brussels-to-Amsterdam departures, or explore possible routes for a European trip.

The app returns information including schedules, journey times and available fares. Booking itself still happens on Eurostar.com. That distinction matters. ChatGPT is becoming the discovery layer here, not the ticketing platform.

AI Is Already Sending Travelers to Eurostar

Eurostar did not suddenly decide people might want to plan travel with AI. Its own traffic figures suggest that shift is already underway. Traffic reaching Eurostar.com from AI platforms increased fivefold between January 2025 and June 2026, according to the company.

By June 2026, ChatGPT represented 85% of Eurostar website traffic generated by AI applications. AI tools were also responsible for roughly 0.8% to 1% of ticket bookings on Eurostar.com between May and July 2026.

That is still a relatively small slice of overall bookings. The direction is harder to ignore. People are beginning journeys somewhere companies historically had little reason to think about: inside an AI conversation.

Search Is Quietly Moving Away From the Search Box

The bigger story isn’t really a new train-search feature.

It is where Eurostar has decided it needs to exist.

Travel planning has traditionally started with Google, airline websites, aggregators or dedicated travel apps. Conversational AI is starting to squeeze itself into that first step.

A traveler might not search for “London Paris Eurostar timetable” anymore.

    They might simply write:

“Find me a reasonably priced train from London to Paris next Friday afternoon.”

That changes the interface, but it also changes how businesses compete for discovery.

Eurostar Chief Commercial Officer François Le Doze said travelers are increasingly using conversational tools to research and organize trips, and that the company wants to be available wherever customers are already searching. It is difficult to make the strategy much clearer than that.

ChatGPT Apps Are Becoming More Useful Inside Conversations

Eurostar’s move fits into OpenAI’s broader push to turn ChatGPT into a place where outside services can operate directly within conversations.

OpenAI introduced apps in ChatGPT as interactive services that can respond to natural-language requests and appear when relevant during a conversation. Early partners included companies such as Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Canva and Zillow.

That makes travel an obvious battleground. Finding a journey involves dates, prices, preferences, connections, destinations and plenty of follow-up questions — exactly the kind of messy query that conversational interfaces handle differently from traditional filters.

Eurostar now gets to test that behavior with actual rail inventory. The shift is already visible elsewhere in travel, where AI assistants are beginning to move from trip recommendations into bookings, changes and other operational travel tasks.

    The Booking Website Isn’t Disappearing

There is an easy temptation with launches like this to declare websites dead.

    Not yet.

Eurostar still sends customers to Eurostar.com to complete purchases. Its own mobile app and website remain active alongside the ChatGPT integration. What is changing is the path that gets somebody there. The website may increasingly become the final transaction layer rather than the place where the entire trip begins.

For travel companies, retailers and other consumer businesses, that difference could become significant. SEO used to focus overwhelmingly on getting noticed by search engines. Now companies are also thinking about whether their products, schedules, services and inventory can be surfaced correctly inside AI assistants.

Eurostar Is Already Thinking Beyond Basic Train Search

The current experience is mostly focused on practical journey information, but Eurostar says it is already exploring additional functionality. Possible future features include destination discovery, visualizations of its rail network, travel inspiration and easier access to selected fares and offers.

The company is also looking at opportunities involving other conversational assistants as AI-powered travel planning grows. So this probably isn’t a one-off ChatGPT experiment. Eurostar appears to be treating conversational AI as another distribution channel.

AI Travel Planning Is Moving From Experiment to Infrastructure

Eurostar operates more than 20 destinations across the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany and carried 20 million passengers in 2025.

Even a modest change in how those passengers search for journeys can become meaningful at that scale. The most telling number may still be the fivefold rise in AI-generated website traffic. People were already using AI to find Eurostar before Eurostar built something specifically for them.

Now the company is moving closer to where those searches actually happen. That broader transition is also showing up in corporate travel, where platforms such as Avenir are combining conversational interfaces, travel data and multi-agent automation. That is probably the part other travel businesses will be watching.
