Direct Travel Pushes Avenir Further Into AI-Powered Business Travel

Direct Travel is pushing its Avenir platform beyond the usual corporate booking-tool formula. The travel management company has unveiled the next evolution of Avenir, adding a broader mix of AI, connected data, analytics, guest travel and partner technologies. The idea is straightforward: instead of forcing travel managers to jump between booking systems, reporting dashboards, spreadsheets and separate services, Direct Travel wants Avenir to become the place where much of that work happens.

That matters because business travel technology has become increasingly fragmented. More airline content is arriving through new distribution channels, companies are experimenting with AI assistants, and travel departments are collecting growing amounts of data without necessarily getting faster answers from it. Avenir is Direct Travel’s attempt to pull those pieces closer together.

Ask Avenir Brings Natural-Language AI Into Travel Data

One of the more interesting additions is Ask Avenir, which gives travel managers a natural-language way to interact with their travel program data. Rather than starting with a predefined report and digging through filters, managers can ask questions directly and use Avenir to generate answers or build reports around those questions.

That sounds like a small interface change. It isn’t. Travel teams routinely sit on large amounts of booking, spending, traveler and policy data. Getting a useful answer can still involve exporting information, combining spreadsheets or waiting for somebody else to produce a report.

Direct Travel says Avenir is being built on an AI-ready data foundation designed to bring trusted travel information into a governed environment. Ask Avenir sits on top of that foundation, alongside dashboards, trend analysis, proactive insights and recommendations. The bigger shift is from looking at reports to actually questioning the data.

Spotnana’s Multi-Agent AI Is Part of the Plan

Avenir isn’t being developed as a completely isolated Direct Travel technology stack. Its core booking and servicing infrastructure comes from Spotnana, whose cloud-based travel platform already powers Avenir’s underlying travel technology. Direct Travel then layers its implementation, service operations and travel-management capabilities around it.

The next phase goes deeper into AI. Direct Travel says Avenir will combine its own artificial intelligence work with Spotnana’s emerging multi-agent AI architecture. Those capabilities are expected to reach travelers, travel managers and travel advisors as Spotnana develops new AI experiences across its platform.

That multi-agent part is worth watching. Instead of treating AI as one chatbot sitting in the corner of a travel application, agent-based systems can divide work among specialized AI components. In travel, that could eventually mean different agents handling areas such as search, servicing, policy, disruptions, reporting or recommendations while sharing context through the same underlying system.

Direct Travel is also leaving room for specialized third-party AI tools. Its open architecture is intended to connect partner solutions rather than forcing every feature to be built directly inside Avenir. The company specifically points to tools such as Otto as an example of focused AI experiences that could operate within that larger ecosystem.

Guest Travel Is Moving Into the Same System

AI grabbed the attention, but another part of the announcement could be just as useful to companies: guest travel. Direct Travel is introducing Juno for guest travel as the first step in Avenir’s expanding ecosystem.

Guest travel is often awkward inside corporate programs. Employees may be covered by managed travel systems while candidates, consultants, speakers, contractors or other visitors end up booked through different processes. That creates another pocket of disconnected information.

By bringing guest travel closer to managed employee travel, Direct Travel argues that companies can get a more complete picture of overall travel activity. That should also produce better data for spending analysis and program decisions. Not glamorous. Potentially very useful.

Avenir Wants to Become the Travel Manager’s Front Door

There is a bigger platform strategy hiding underneath these individual features. Direct Travel is positioning Avenir as a single entry point for reporting, program resources, insights and partner capabilities, all accessible through one secure login.

The target is the messy collection of systems that has accumulated around corporate travel over the years. Booking tools do one thing. Reporting systems do another. Expense software lives somewhere else. Meetings platforms have their own interfaces. Duty-of-care tools add another dashboard. Then there are supplier portals, spreadsheets and internal company systems sitting alongside everything.

Avenir’s open architecture is supposed to keep adding services without requiring customers to continually replace the technology sitting underneath their travel program. Future expansion could stretch across analytics, automation, meetings and events, expense management and duty of care.

Direct Travel has been moving toward this global-platform model for some time. Earlier in 2026, the company announced a wider international rollout of Avenir Travel Edition across Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and North America.

AI in Business Travel Is Moving Past the Chatbot Stage

The Avenir announcement also shows where enterprise AI is heading inside travel. The first wave was easy to recognize: chatbots, itinerary suggestions and automated customer-support responses. The next wave looks less visible.

AI is increasingly being pushed into the infrastructure underneath the travel experience—searching internal data, generating reports, identifying spending patterns, automating routine workflows and connecting information that previously lived in separate systems. For companies, that may prove more valuable than having another consumer-facing AI assistant.

A travel manager asking, in plain language, why spending jumped in a particular market and getting a usable answer from governed company data is a different proposition from asking a generic chatbot where to stay in London. Avenir is clearly moving in that direction.

The challenge now is execution. Corporate travel systems handle sensitive information, complex policies and expensive decisions. AI answers need to be reliable, permissions need to work properly, and integrations have to function across regions rather than looking impressive in a product demo.

Still, the direction is becoming difficult to miss. AI isn’t simply being added to business travel software anymore. Companies are beginning to redesign the software around it.
