Baidu RT6 autonomous taxis in Dubai were officially launched following an inauguration attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The launch took place during the Dubai World Self-Driving Transport Exhibition. The initiative is led by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority in partnership with Baidu’s autonomous mobility unit, Apollo Go. The project marks the start of fully autonomous taxi operations using AI-powered vehicles.

Baidu RT6 Autonomous Taxis in Dubai Deployed Through RTA Partnership

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority signed agreements with Baidu Apollo Go to deploy the RT6 robotaxi model. The RT6 is Baidu’s sixth-generation autonomous vehicle designed specifically for driverless transport. The taxis operate without human drivers during testing phases. The partnership supports Dubai’s broader smart mobility strategy and long-term transport goals.

Testing and Rollout of Baidu RT6 Autonomous Taxis in Dubai

Initial operations began with pilot testing in selected areas. These include districts such as Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. The testing phase includes more than 60 autonomous vehicles from global technology companies. Baidu RT6 autonomous taxis in Dubai are part of these early trials. Data is collected to evaluate safety, performance, and operational readiness.

Future Expansion of Baidu RT6 Autonomous Taxis in Dubai

Authorities confirmed that full commercial operations without safety drivers are planned for 2026. The rollout supports the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2025–2040. The strategy aims to increase the percentage of autonomous trips to 25 percent by 2030. Further expansion is planned through 2040.

The RT6 taxis feature advanced AI systems, sensors, and real-time navigation software. The vehicles are purpose-built for autonomous use. They also include interactive digital screens for passengers. These systems connect with Dubai’s smart city infrastructure.

Leadership Review and Smart Transport Branding

During the exhibition, Sheikh Hamdan reviewed the “Dubai Future Ride” unified branding for self-driving vehicles. Baidu RT6 autonomous taxis in Dubai will operate under this identity. The branding applies to autonomous taxis and other driverless transport services.

The initiative involves collaboration between government entities and international technology firms. The project reflects Dubai’s focus on autonomous mobility, artificial intelligence, and advanced transport systems.
