Aramco Digital has unveiled a new industrial AI ecosystem built for Saudi Arabia’s heavy industries.

Called iCONNA, the platform combines industrial connectivity, artificial intelligence, connected devices, and Industrial Internet of Things technology. It was unveiled at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh by Aramco Digital CEO Dr. Ashraf AlTahini.

The idea is bigger than simply connecting machines. Aramco Digital wants industrial sites to turn live operational data into faster decisions. Over time, that could support facilities that become more automated and adaptive.

At the center is Saudi Arabia’s national 450 MHz industrial network. It provides dedicated connectivity for industrial environments where reliability and security matter.

iCONNA Brings Six Industrial Technology Layers Together

Industrial technology can become fragmented quickly. One vendor handles connectivity. Another supplies sensors, while separate platforms manage data and AI. iCONNA is designed to bring those pieces closer together. The ecosystem combines six core layers. They cover the 450 MHz network, mission-critical communications, Industrial IoT, smart devices, industrial AI, and a software marketplace. The goal is to create one environment for connected industrial operations.

Saudi Arabia’s 450 MHz Network Sits at the Center

The national 450 MHz network provides the connectivity foundation for iCONNA. It operates using private spectrum rather than relying on public commercial networks. That distinction matters inside industrial environments. Factories, energy facilities, and remote sites often need reliable connections under difficult conditions. The network can support sensors, equipment, and other connected assets across these locations. Aramco Digital sees that infrastructure as a foundation for industrial AI at scale.

Industrial AI Moves Closer to the Edge

AI inside a factory cannot always wait for information to travel to a distant cloud server. Some decisions need to happen close to the machine generating the data. iCONNA combines connectivity with edge Industrial IoT and AI capabilities. Sensors can continuously generate operational information. AI systems can then analyze those streams and support faster decisions. This approach could help industrial operators detect problems earlier. It could also support more automated responses when conditions suddenly change.

Aramco Digital Wants to Turn Data Into Action

Industrial facilities already produce enormous amounts of data. Collecting more of it isn’t necessarily the hard part anymore. Making that information useful is the bigger challenge. Aramco Digital’s wider Industrial AI Platform follows the same idea. It combines monitoring, analytics, and AI within one environment. The platform can run on-premise or in the cloud. It is designed to turn operational information into decisions rather than leave data trapped across separate systems.

Rugged Devices Are Part of the AI Ecosystem

Industrial AI still needs hardware that can survive where the work happens. iCONNA includes the Xtreme Reliability device portfolio for field operations. These rugged devices are designed for demanding industrial environments. They can help workers maintain communications in locations where ordinary consumer hardware may not be suitable. Connecting these devices with industrial AI creates another source of real-time operational information. It also gives field teams direct access to connected systems.

Autonomous Industrial Sites Are the Bigger Goal

The longer-term ambition goes beyond better dashboards. Aramco Digital wants industrial facilities to become more intelligent and adaptive. Machines, sensors, workers, and AI systems could operate through the same digital environment. Real-time data could trigger recommendations or automated actions. That could reduce the time between detecting a problem and responding to it. Aramco Digital describes its wider architecture as moving from connected assets toward applications and autonomy.

Qualcomm Is Already Part of Aramco Digital’s Edge AI Push

iCONNA also builds on earlier work between Aramco Digital and Qualcomm Technologies. The companies announced a collaboration around edge AI and Industrial IoT technologies. Their work includes predictive maintenance, visual anomaly detection, worker assistants, and asset management. Qualcomm brings expertise in on-device AI and power-efficient computing. Aramco Digital brings its industrial connectivity infrastructure. The partnership also targets devices such as robots, drones, sensors, and rugged handheld equipment.

Predictive Maintenance Could Be an Important Use Case

Predictive maintenance is one area where industrial AI can deliver practical value. Instead of waiting for equipment to fail, AI can study sensor information for early warning signs. Maintenance teams can then investigate before a problem becomes more expensive. Aramco already uses predictive modeling across its operations. Its digital systems help engineers anticipate possible equipment failures. Expanding that capability through connected industrial infrastructure could bring similar tools to more environments.

Aramco Is Already Using AI Across Its Operations

Industrial AI isn’t a completely new direction for the wider Aramco organization. The company says it recorded $1.8 billion in AI-driven Technology Realized Value during 2024. By late 2025, it had identified 442 AI use cases. More than 200 solutions had already been deployed. Another 100-plus were under development. Those applications cover areas such as exploration, production, reliability, engineering, maintenance, and worker safety.

Aramco’s Industrial Sites Provide a Massive Data Foundation

Industrial AI needs data, and Aramco produces plenty of it. Its Fourth Industrial Revolution Center collects more than five billion data points every day. Those streams help support the development of AI and digital solutions. The company already uses AI, machine learning, robotics, drones, and IIoT across different facilities. This creates an unusually large testing environment for industrial intelligence. iCONNA could help extend that approach into a broader commercial ecosystem.

Industrial AI Is Becoming Part of Saudi Arabia’s Digital Infrastructure

Saudi Arabia wants AI to move beyond consumer applications and software services. Industrial systems are becoming another major target. Aramco Digital describes itself as building an industrial AI backbone for the Kingdom. Its strategy combines infrastructure, data, intelligence, and applications. That fits Saudi Vision 2030’s wider push toward digital transformation and economic diversification. iCONNA gives that strategy a physical layer through networks, devices, sensors, and industrial AI.

iCONNA Shows Where Industrial AI Is Heading

There is a practical difference between deploying an AI model and building an AI-powered industrial operation. The second requires reliable networks, sensors, computing, software, and hardware working together.

That is the problem iCONNA is trying to solve.

Instead of treating AI as another application sitting above industrial infrastructure, Aramco Digital is putting intelligence into the infrastructure itself. Data comes from connected assets. Networks move it. AI interprets it. Applications can then turn those insights into action.

For Saudi Arabia, the bigger opportunity is scale. If this model expands across energy, manufacturing, logistics, and other heavy industries, industrial AI could become part of the Kingdom’s core digital infrastructure.
