    Key Takeaways

    • UNESCO and Tecnológico de Monterrey signed an AI education partnership to enhance learning systems in Latin America.
    • The initiative runs from 2026 to 2029, focusing on AI skills, training for educators, and inclusive learning environments.
    • Regional collaboration will foster knowledge sharing through biennial forums for policymakers and experts.
    • UNESCO will provide resources in Spanish, adapted for local contexts, to support educational strategies.
    • This initiative aligns with global education goals, promoting responsible AI usage and improving education quality and access.

UNESCO and Tecnológico de Monterrey have teamed up in an AI education partnership aimed at strengthening learning systems across Latin America. The agreement was signed during the IFE Conference 2026 in Monterrey, Mexico, where leaders from education, government, and international organizations gathered. At its core, the collaboration centers on advancing artificial intelligence and promoting lifelong learning in the region.

The partnership brings together UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning and Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Institute for the Future of Education. Running from 2026 to 2029, the initiative is designed to build stronger institutions and widen access to education. It also supports countries in shaping public policies that encourage continuous learning.

Focus on AI Skills and Capacity Building

A major priority of this AI education partnership is developing digital and AI-related skills. Training programs will be rolled out for teachers, students, and education leaders. Through workshops and other learning activities, participants will explore digital transformation and the skills needed for the future.

The agreement also places importance on ongoing professional development. It aims to strengthen expertise in AI fields while helping governments and institutions design effective education strategies. At the same time, the initiative promotes more inclusive learning environments.

    Regional Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

Collaboration across the region is another key part of this effort. A forum will take place every two years, bringing together policymakers and experts to share insights and practical solutions. The goal is to encourage cooperation and improve education systems collectively.

UNESCO will contribute research, tools, and frameworks, all made accessible in Spanish. These resources will be adapted to fit local contexts throughout Latin America. The initiative will also support UNESCO Learning Cities, helping communities expand their learning opportunities.

    Alignment with Global Education Goals

This AI education partnership is aligned with broader international goals. It supports the Marrakech Framework for Action and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals. The focus remains on improving both the quality of education and access to it.

The collaboration also highlights the responsible use of artificial intelligence. It promotes evidence-based approaches and encourages innovation in education systems. Educators, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders across the region are expected to benefit from the program.
