From AI-Powered Replays to Smarter Live Graphics: Chyron Nominated for 2026 World AI Awards

Chyron has been nominated for the 2026 World AI Awards in the Broadcasting Enhancement category, recognising its work in applying artificial intelligence to live television production, broadcast graphics, sports analysis and increasingly automated production workflows.

For a company whose history stretches back to the development of the modern character generator in 1966, the current shift is notable. Chyron is no longer dealing only with the graphics viewers see on screen. AI is beginning to work underneath the broadcast, helping operators identify important moments, track athletes, build replays and manage visual elements while a programme is still live.

The World AI Awards recognises organisations, individuals, products and technologies contributing to the development and practical application of artificial intelligence across industries.

Chyron approaches that opportunity from inside the control room. Its technology is built for broadcasters, sports producers and other live-production teams where a useful AI feature has to do something quickly enough to matter on air.

AI is starting to reshape the replay room

Sports broadcasting provides perhaps the clearest example.

Chyron’s PAINT platform is designed for illustrated replay and telestration, allowing production teams to break down moments during a match rather than simply replay them. Recent versions have brought AI directly into that workflow.

PAINT 10.4, released in June 2026, introduced an AI-enhanced Player Cutout feature designed to isolate individual athletes more quickly for replay analysis. The release also added professional football data integration, allowing player metrics to feed directly into telestration and replay workflows.

Earlier AI-enhanced versions of PAINT introduced automatic pitch calibration and player tracking. Instead of manually mapping a football pitch or keyframing a player throughout a replay, operators can use automated tools to establish the playing surface and follow movement through the clip.

These are small tasks when viewed individually. During a live match, they matter. Seconds spent preparing an analysis sequence can determine whether it reaches air while the moment is still relevant.

CamWarp turns separate camera angles into one replay

Chyron pushed the idea further with PAINT 10.5 and CamWarp, announced in September 2026.

CamWarp uses AI to generate a transition between synchronised camera angles. An operator chooses a multi-angle replay clip, selects the transition point and defines the starting and destination cameras. The software then creates a new transition that moves between those perspectives instead of relying on a conventional hard cut.

The feature preserves graphical alignment as the viewpoint changes, which matters when telestration is being used to explain positioning or movement. Operators can also adjust player segmentation and add motion blur before the generated sequence goes to air.

It is a tightly defined application of generative technology. Chyron is not asking AI to decide the editorial story. The operator chooses the moment and perspectives; the software tackles the technically awkward transition between them.

Chyron LIVE looks for the moment worth replaying

Another practical application sits inside Chyron LIVE, the company’s cloud-native production platform.

LIVE combines switching, audio mixing, graphics, replay and telestration in a browser-accessible environment. Chyron says its built-in AI can detect sports events such as goals, shots on target and significant plays, allowing operators to generate replay clips without manually searching through footage.

That changes the economics of AI in broadcasting. A large television production may have dedicated replay operators and extensive infrastructure. Smaller rights holders, streaming productions or remote teams often do not.

Automation can give those crews access to capabilities that would otherwise require another operator watching and clipping feeds throughout the event.

Virtual graphics get an AI-assisted upgrade

Chyron is also applying AI around augmented graphics.

Its Virtual Placement platform inserts data-driven graphics into live sports coverage, including football offside lines, distance-to-goal markers, American football first-down graphics and virtual advertising.

The platform combines optical tracking and image processing with AI-enhanced tracking. Chyron says it can calibrate from a video input without requiring additional encoders or tracking hardware, reducing the setup involved in placing graphics accurately into a live scene.

Elsewhere, Chyron’s CAMIO newsroom system connects graphics templates with newsroom computer systems so journalists and producers can populate visual elements and place them directly into a rundown for playout. CAMIO itself is primarily a workflow and graphics-management platform rather than an AI product, but it shows the wider production environment into which Chyron is inserting its newer automation tools.

Graham Cooke, President of the World AI Awards, said:

“Chyron’s nomination in Broadcasting Enhancement highlights a practical side of artificial intelligence that viewers may never directly notice, but production teams certainly will.

“From AI-assisted player tracking and replay creation to generated camera transitions and smarter virtual graphics, Chyron is exploring how AI can remove repetitive technical work while leaving editorial and creative decisions with the people producing the broadcast. We congratulate the Chyron team on its 2026 World AI Awards nomination and look forward to following how these tools develop.”

Chyron joins organisations, entrepreneurs, researchers and technology developers being recognised through the 2026 World AI Awards.

The programme highlights organisations, individuals and technologies contributing to the development and application of artificial intelligence across industries.

Broadcasting presents a particularly interesting test. Live production leaves little room for waiting. Graphics have to appear at the right moment. Replays need to be ready within seconds. Tracking has to stay attached to a moving player or changing camera view. An AI feature that saves time only matters if it can operate inside that reality.

Chyron’s recent development work is aimed squarely at that problem. Its AI tools are not presented as replacements for producers, graphics operators or replay specialists. The company describes its strategy as using AI to reduce repetitive work and cognitive load while keeping human operators in control of creative and editorial decisions.

That may prove to be one of AI’s more consequential roles in broadcasting: not taking over the programme, but helping the people making it keep pace with what is happening on screen.
