The UAE is giving manufacturers a more direct route into artificial intelligence and advanced factory technology.
The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has launched Factory Forward UAE, a national initiative designed to accelerate technology adoption across the country’s industrial sector. Instead of manufacturers navigating separate programmes, experts, technology providers and financing options, the initiative brings much of that support together under one platform.
Factory Forward is aimed at factories that want to modernize operations but may not know where to begin. That could mean identifying where AI makes sense, assessing existing systems or finding funding for a larger digital transformation project.
The programme isn’t starting from scratch. Initiatives now brought together through Factory Forward have already supported more than 700 factories across the UAE. More than 620 factories have also undergone assessments through the Industrial Technology Transformation Index.
Factory Forward Gives UAE Manufacturers One Place to Start
Industrial transformation can get complicated quickly. A factory might understand that it needs automation or better data systems without knowing which technology will actually improve its operations.
Factory Forward UAE is meant to narrow that gap.
Manufacturers will be connected with technical experts, technology providers, support programmes and financing partners. The platform will help factories assess their current operations before deciding which technologies are worth implementing.
It will also showcase successful factory transformations and practical technology use cases. That gives manufacturers something useful: examples of what has already worked rather than another abstract pitch about digital transformation.
The initiative supports factories at different stages. Some may only need an initial technology assessment. Others could already have a transformation plan but need expertise, training or financing to move ahead.
AI Moves Deeper Into the UAE Manufacturing Strategy
Artificial intelligence is a clear part of the plan.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, said the ministry is focused on helping factories use advanced technologies, including AI, to raise productivity and efficiency while becoming more competitive.
That can translate into fairly practical factory applications. AI can support predictive maintenance, production planning, quality monitoring and supply chain management. It can also help manufacturers optimize energy and resource use or turn industrial data into faster operational decisions.
This matters because factory AI looks very different from the consumer AI boom. Manufacturers are not adopting technology simply to add a chatbot. The real value comes when AI affects production lines, equipment performance, logistics, costs and output.
Factory Forward appears built around that more practical version of AI adoption.
Technology Assessments Come Before the Big Upgrade
Not every factory needs the same technology, and throwing AI at an inefficient process does not automatically fix it.
The UAE already uses the Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI) to measure technology maturity and sustainable practices within industrial facilities. More than 620 factories have been assessed through the index so far.
Factory Forward brings that assessment approach into a broader support system.
A manufacturer can identify weaknesses in its current operations, determine where advanced technology could produce measurable gains and then work toward implementation. That creates a more structured path from “we should adopt AI” to figuring out what AI or automation should actually do inside the plant.
MoIAT’s wider Technology Transformation Program already includes ITTI, Transform 4.0, technology transformation incentives, Industry 4.0 Enablement Centers and the Factory of the Future Award.
Factory Forward now gives those efforts a more connected front door.
Funding Could Be Just as Important as the Technology
Finding the right system is only half the problem. Industrial technology can be expensive.
Factory Forward addresses that issue by involving technology, enablement and financing partners from both the public and private sectors.
Technology partners will assess factory operations and identify where new systems could make a difference. Enablement partners will provide specialist knowledge, advice and training. Financing partners will focus on helping manufacturers secure funding and investment for transformation projects.
That three-part structure could be particularly important for smaller manufacturers. A company may see a strong case for automation, robotics or AI-driven production systems but still struggle with expertise or upfront investment.
Putting those pieces closer together could shorten the distance between assessment and deployment.
UAE Has Been Building Toward Industry 4.0
Factory Forward fits into a much bigger industrial technology push.
The UAE’s Industry 4.0 programme is a major component of Operation 300Bn, the country’s industrial strategy. Its goals include accelerating digital transformation, increasing industrial productivity and creating skilled jobs.
MoIAT has also been building partnerships around specific technologies.
In May 2026, the ministry signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi-based Sinaha Technology to accelerate AI, robotics and Industry 4.0 adoption among UAE manufacturers. The partnership focuses on building technology roadmaps and moving manufacturers from assessments toward real deployments.
That distinction is important. Governments have spent years talking about smart factories. The harder part is getting technology onto factory floors and proving that it improves production.
Factory Forward is another attempt to push that process further.
Why Factory Forward Matters for UAE Industry
The initiative is ultimately about competitiveness.
Factories are dealing with changing demand, tighter supply chains, rising efficiency expectations and growing pressure to produce more with fewer wasted resources. Advanced technology can help, but only when manufacturers can actually deploy it.
Factory Forward tries to connect the pieces that usually slow that deployment down: assessment, expertise, technology and capital.
MoIAT expects broader adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to help manufacturers raise efficiency, respond faster to market changes and strengthen supply chains. The ministry also sees technology as a way for UAE factories to compete more effectively at home and internationally.
For the UAE, there is another layer. Smarter factories support the country’s wider effort to build high-value industries rather than rely only on traditional economic sectors.
AI becomes part of industrial policy, not simply a technology trend.
Factory AI Is Moving From Experiments to Operations
The interesting part of Factory Forward isn’t that the UAE wants factories to use AI. That direction has been clear for some time.
What’s changing is the infrastructure around adoption.
Manufacturers need to know where AI will produce value. They need people who can deploy it. Workers need training. Equipment and software need to work together. And somebody has to pay for the upgrade.
Factory Forward UAE puts those questions into the same ecosystem.
For manufacturers, that could make the first step toward Industry 4.0 considerably less confusing. For the UAE, it could also help turn its advanced manufacturing ambitions into something much more tangible: factories where AI, automation and industrial data are part of everyday production.
