The UAE Ministry of Finance is getting measurable results from generative AI, not simply testing another chatbot behind the scenes. During the first half of 2026, the ministry’s call centre resolved 97.11% of customer enquiries during the first interaction. Its original target was 90%.

Calls were also answered in an average of eight seconds, comfortably beating the ministry’s 20-second target. Those figures matter because government AI projects often arrive with ambitious announcements but very little operational evidence. Here, the ministry has attached numbers to the technology. Faster answers, fewer abandoned calls and less need for customers to contact the department repeatedly.

Generative AI Moves Beyond the Government Pilot Stage

The UAE Ministry of Finance has integrated generative AI into the daily operations of its customer service centre. That includes providing real-time responses to enquiries around the clock. Customers can also use a “Chat with Documents” system to ask questions about PDF files and user guides through a natural-language conversation.

Instead of opening a lengthy government document and manually searching for a particular rule, fee or process, a user can ask the system directly. It is a simple idea. It could also remove one of the more frustrating parts of dealing with official information: knowing the answer is somewhere inside a document but not knowing where to find it.

    Call Resolution Reaches 97.11%

First Contact Resolution reached 97.11% during the first six months of 2026, compared with the ministry’s target of 90%. That means the vast majority of callers received an answer or resolution without needing another call, a transfer or an additional follow-up.

Service Quality reached 92.41%, far above the target of 80%. Customer Happiness also climbed to 95.43%, exceeding the government benchmark of 90%. Meanwhile, 93.40% of incoming calls were answered within 30 seconds. The target was 90%.

Customers Wait Just Eight Seconds for an Answer

The improvement in answering speed may be the most immediately noticeable change for callers. Average Speed of Answer fell to eight seconds, compared with the ministry’s target of 20 seconds. Average Handling Time also came in at four minutes and 35 seconds, slightly better than the five-minute goal.

The call abandonment rate dropped to 1.88%. The ministry had set a maximum threshold of 5%. Not every improvement can automatically be credited to one AI tool. Staff performance, workflow changes and better access to information also shape call centre results. Still, the ministry says its wider package of generative AI and intelligent service systems played a direct role in pushing performance beyond every approved operational target.

AI Listens to Tone as Well as Words

The call centre is using an AI-powered sentiment analysis system that evaluates a customer’s tone of voice and the words used during a conversation. This gives the ministry another layer of information beyond whether a call was simply answered or closed. The system may help staff identify frustration, confusion or dissatisfaction while the interaction is still happening.

Speech-to-text technology also converts calls into written transcripts. Those transcripts can support employee feedback, training and guidance, while making it easier to review whether customers received accurate answers. The technology does not remove the human employee from the conversation. At least in this setup, it gives staff more information and faster access to possible responses.

Real-Time Dashboards Track Call Centre Performance

The ministry has paired its AI tools with Tableau dashboards that provide a real-time view of requests and operational performance. Managers can monitor service levels, review the status of customer cases and respond when a particular metric starts moving in the wrong direction.

The call centre also uses the ministry’s Talbiyah platform to receive, process and fulfil customer requests. None of these systems sounds especially dramatic on its own. Together, though, they create something more useful: a customer service operation where information from calls, documents, employee activity and service requests can move through the same digital environment.

UAE Government Departments Face Growing AI Pressure

The Ministry of Finance results arrive as the UAE government pushes public entities to move faster on agentic and generative AI adoption.

Government leaders have been tasked with identifying AI use cases and developing implementation plans as the country works toward introducing agentic AI across a significant share of government services and operations.

That creates a degree of competition between departments. An AI announcement is no longer enough. Ministries increasingly need to show whether the systems actually reduce waiting times, improve service quality or remove repetitive work. The Ministry of Finance now has a useful set of figures to point to.

The Ministry Has Bigger AI Plans Ahead

The call centre is only one piece of the ministry’s wider digital strategy. Its Strategic Plan 2027–2029 includes a smart predictive budgeting platform, a federal government monetary forecasting platform and an AI-powered procurement system.

The ministry is also working on a national assistant for financial analysis. Digital currency payments for federal service fees form part of the roadmap as well.

These projects carry more complexity than answering customer enquiries. Budgeting, forecasting, procurement and financial analysis involve sensitive data and decisions that can affect government spending. The call centre results will not prove that every future AI system will work. They do show that the ministry is building practical experience before moving deeper into higher-stakes financial applications.

Government AI Needs More Numbers Like These

The most interesting part of this announcement is not that a government ministry now uses generative AI. That is quickly becoming normal. The numbers make it worth watching. A 97.11% first-contact resolution rate. Eight-second answer times. Customer happiness above 95%. Fewer than 2% of callers abandoning the process.

Those are clear performance indicators that people can understand. The next question is whether the ministry can maintain those results as enquiry volumes grow and its AI systems handle more complicated requests. Accuracy, data protection and human oversight will also remain important, particularly when conversations involve federal financial services.

For now, the UAE Ministry of Finance has produced something many AI projects still lack: evidence that the technology is making a service noticeably faster.
