Google is dumping its legacy Google Assistant feature and shifting toward its newer “Gemini” AI-powered assistant app. In a blog post Friday, the Mountain View-headquartered company said it was upgrading users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini.
Later this year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for download in app stores, the company added.

Other devices, Marquardt said, like tablets, cars, and connected devices like headphones and watches, will also soon be upgraded to Gemini. Google also plans to bring a “new experience, powered by Gemini,” to home devices like speakers, displays and TVs.
“We look forward to sharing more details with you in the next few months,” Marquardt said. “Until then, Google Assistant will continue to operate on these devices.
Google Assistant was launched in 2016 and featured natural language processing and voice recognition technology designed to unlock “a more natural way to get help from Google.”
Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant, was launched last year and has since expanded to over 40 languages and more than 200 countries.
