Case Western Reserve University has unveiled the AI in Education initiative hub, a resource that serves as a one-stop shop for all things artificial intelligence (AI) at CWRU. The hub centralizes resources, highlights news and events, and provides updates on how AI is being integrated into the university’s educational mission and research initiatives.
Empowering the campus community and beyond
As AI reshapes industries and academia, CWRU is taking steps to ensure its community is equipped to navigate this transformation. The hub provides access to courses, programs, and tools that build AI skills for users at all experience levels.
“AI is all around us—it’s an essential part of shaping how we teach, learn, and conduct research today,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Joy K. Ward. “This initiative ensures our community is well-equipped to engage with AI in ways that advance innovation yet are mindful of the ethical implications of its use. This is important for helping us to develop students who are prepared for the rapid changes ahead.”
The new hub includes dedicated resources designed to support the campus community in navigating and leveraging AI effectively. Key sections include AI Skills Building, AI Tools & Resources, and AI Policies, each tailored to meet specific needs:
- AI Skills Building: Offers educational pathways for all experience levels, from beginner guides to advanced programs, helping users enhance their AI knowledge and expertise.
- AI Tools & Resources: Provides access to Gen AI tools, a prompt library, and other technologies that support innovative applications in learning, teaching, and problem-solving.
- AI Policies: Outlines ethical guidelines and best practices to ensure AI is used responsibly and aligns with the university’s values of integrity and positive societal impact.
These resources empower the CWRU community to confidently integrate AI into their work and studies while upholding ethical standards.
Jeff Capadona, vice provost for innovation, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative.
“AI is revolutionizing how we approach research and education,” Capadona said. “This platform provides the tools and knowledge our community needs to lead responsibly in this new era.”
In addition to campus resources, AI tools will be accessible to the greater community at Kelvin Smith Library, Sears think[box], Wade Park Community Engagement Center, and through the Siegal Lifelong Learning program. This ensures that alumni, local professionals, and lifelong learners can access advanced AI tools and resources. By extending these opportunities beyond the campus, we’re promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration, empowering individuals to incorporate AI into their work and personal endeavors.
Looking ahead in AI
The team is expanding the hub’s offerings to include resources dedicated to AI in research. While the current hub focuses on education, tools, and ethical guidelines, plans are underway to integrate a platform for AI in grants and research. Led by Senior Vice President for Research Michael Oakes, this upcoming addition will provide specialized resources for researchers and further enhance the university’s commitment to innovation. Once complete, the research platform will be seamlessly linked to the AI hub, creating a comprehensive resource for the entire CWRU community.
