Planning a holiday usually starts with excitement and ends with a dozen browser tabs. One for hotels, another for flights, a few more for restaurant recommendations, and perhaps an AI chatbot trying to pull everything together.
Agoda wants to replace that messy process with a single conversation.
The digital travel platform has expanded its new Agoda AI Travel Assistant to users across 21 markets, bringing destination discovery, itinerary planning, real-time pricing, and booking into one experience within its mobile app.
The rollout follows a limited beta introduced in September 2026. Agoda describes the launch as its first entirely new booking experience in more than two decades.
Rather than simply suggesting places to visit, the assistant connects travel recommendations directly with Agoda’s booking inventory, allowing users to check availability and make reservations without repeatedly starting their search from scratch.
Agoda Brings AI Travel Planning and Booking Together
Finding a good travel recommendation is easy enough. Finding out whether the suggested hotel is available, fits the budget, and works with the rest of the itinerary is where things become complicated.
Agoda’s AI Assistant attempts to close that gap.
The system combines conversational planning with access to more than six million accommodation listings, alongside flights, attractions, tours, and other travel services.
Travelers can describe what they want in everyday language, compare options, and refine their plans as the conversation develops. The assistant also retains their preferences and trip context, reducing the need to repeat information whenever plans change.
For Agoda, the important difference is that these conversations connect to actual travel products rather than stopping at general recommendations.
OpenAI and Google Gemini Power Agoda’s AI Assistant
Behind the conversational interface, Agoda is using AI technology from two major providers.
OpenAI models handle the assistant’s core conversational capabilities, allowing travelers to ask questions, explore destinations, and adjust their plans through natural-language interactions.
For restaurants, attractions, and other points of interest, the platform uses Google Gemini with Google Maps Grounding.
That integration gives the assistant access to current location information, including restaurant ratings, photographs, opening hours, and map locations.
Agoda has also incorporated web search to supplement its own travel inventory with information from the wider internet.
The combination addresses a familiar limitation of standalone AI travel planners: a recommendation might sound appealing, but travelers still need to establish whether the information is current and whether the experience can actually be booked.
A Five-Day Holiday Can Start With One Question
Imagine planning a five-day family vacation to Osaka, Japan.
Instead of searching separately for neighborhoods, hotels, restaurants, flights, and sightseeing activities, a traveler could ask Agoda’s assistant to help organize the entire trip.
The AI can suggest areas to stay, compare accommodation choices, identify nearby attractions, and check available travel options for the selected dates.
If the traveler changes their mind about the location or budget, the conversation can continue without rebuilding the itinerary from the beginning.
Agoda has also introduced a trip planner canvas, where users can view upcoming reservations, potential activities, saved destinations, and unfinished travel plans.
The interface supports both conversational responses and suggested selections, giving travelers a way to build an itinerary while keeping earlier decisions visible.
It is a relatively simple idea, but one that tackles a frustrating part of travel planning: keeping track of everything after the initial research.
Early Testing Suggests Travelers Are Booking More Than Hotels
Agoda’s early beta findings point to an interesting change in booking behavior.
According to the company, customers using its AI Assistant were more likely to book what it calls a connected trip, combining multiple travel products rather than purchasing accommodation alone.
That might mean booking a hotel alongside flights, attraction tickets, or guided tours.
Agoda has not disclosed detailed conversion figures or the financial impact of the assistant, so the scale of that change remains unclear.
Still, the early findings offer a glimpse of why travel platforms are investing in conversational AI.
A traveler who starts by asking where to stay could eventually organize several parts of a holiday within the same application.
For Agoda, that creates an opportunity to connect services that customers might otherwise purchase from different providers.
Agoda CEO Wants to Remove the Frustration From Travel Planning
Agoda CEO Omri Morgenshtern has described the fragmented nature of travel planning as a major problem for customers.
People regularly move between search engines, booking platforms, maps, messages, and spreadsheets to organize even relatively straightforward trips.
The company’s approach is to give travelers an assistant that understands their preferences, remembers the context of their plans, and helps them make decisions without repeating the same research.
The ambition goes beyond making hotel searches faster.
Agoda wants the planning process itself to become part of the booking experience, with fewer interruptions between discovering a destination and making a reservation.
Whether travelers embrace that approach will depend on how reliably the assistant handles pricing, availability, and changing travel requirements.
AI Travel Assistants Are Moving Beyond Basic Recommendations
Agoda’s launch reflects a wider shift in how artificial intelligence is entering the travel industry.
For years, digital travel services have focused heavily on search filters, recommendation algorithms, and personalized offers. Generative AI introduces a more flexible interface, allowing travelers to explain what they need instead of navigating multiple search menus.
The bigger opportunity lies in connecting those conversations to actual booking systems.
An AI assistant that recommends a hotel is useful. One that can help compare properties, check live availability, and guide a customer toward a reservation offers a more complete service.
But the technology still has limitations. Prices can change, availability can disappear, and AI-generated suggestions may not always reflect a traveler’s priorities.
Users will still need to review booking conditions, cancellation policies, and final costs before confirming reservations.
What Agoda’s AI Assistant Means for the Future of Travel Booking
Agoda’s AI Assistant is now available to users in 21 markets, marking a broader rollout after its initial September testing phase.
The company’s mobile platform already provides access to more than six million holiday properties, over 130,000 flight routes, and more than 300,000 activities.
Bringing that inventory into a conversational experience could change how customers interact with travel booking platforms.
Instead of beginning with a destination search and working through several separate booking pages, travelers may increasingly start with a question about the kind of trip they want.
Agoda is betting that AI can turn that conversation into an organized, bookable itinerary.
The real test will be whether the assistant saves travelers enough time, delivers dependable recommendations, and makes booking easier than the traditional search experience.
For now, Agoda has taken another step toward a travel industry where planning a holiday feels less like managing a spreadsheet and more like having a conversation.
