India-based travel platform Travelxp has launched Marco, an agentic AI travel concierge. It is designed to do considerably more than recommend hotels or build an itinerary.

Marco can search live travel inventory, plan trips, handle bookings and complete payments within spending limits approved by the traveler. Moreover, it can continue managing parts of the journey after a booking is made. This pushes the idea of AI travel assistants closer to full travel execution rather than simple chatbot-style planning.

Travelxp has initially made Marco available in India. Travelers can access the AI concierge through WhatsApp, Instagram and the company’s website.

Marco Moves AI Travel From Planning to Action

Most AI travel tools still stop somewhere between inspiration and itinerary creation. For example, they can suggest a destination, compare neighborhoods or generate a four-day travel plan. However, the traveler usually has to move into another booking system to finish the transaction. Travelxp is trying to remove that handoff. It gives Marco the ability to search live airfares and hotel rates, create an itinerary and move forward with the booking process itself.

Travelers can establish a spending limit beforehand, allowing Marco to act within those approved financial parameters without repeatedly asking the user to confirm every small decision. However, when a transaction exceeds the authorized budget, the system alerts the traveler and requests approval. That difference matters because agentic AI is built around systems that can take actions toward a goal instead of simply producing answers to prompts.

Agentic Payments Are a Big Part of Travelxp’s Approach

Payments are one of the more significant parts of Marco’s design. Notably, Travelxp says the concierge uses an agentic payment infrastructure that allows it to initiate and complete transactions based on financial limits established by the traveler.

Digital payments in India commonly require user authentication through methods such as a PIN, tap or one-time password. Marco approaches that friction by operating within a preauthorized spending threshold. Consequently, instead of approving every individual step of a booking, the traveler gives the AI permission to act within a defined budget.

That model could become important for autonomous commerce because an AI agent becomes far more useful when it can complete the transaction it has been asked to arrange. It also gives users a degree of control. This is because the agent cannot freely spend beyond the boundaries that have already been set.

Travelxp Wants Marco to Keep Working After the Booking

Marco’s role does not necessarily end after the flight or hotel confirmation arrives. Travelxp says the system can continue monitoring parts of the journey and adjust itineraries when circumstances change. This includes situations involving flight delays or pricing changes.

That creates a more persistent type of AI travel assistant. Instead of opening a chatbot every time something changes, travelers could rely on an agent that remains aware of the itinerary and reacts when new information appears. For airlines, hotels and online travel platforms, this could gradually reshape a customer journey. Traditionally, this journey has separated search, booking, payment and post-booking support into different stages.

Marco Can Also Coordinate Group Trips

Travelxp is also positioning Marco as a tool for group travel, where planning can become complicated very quickly. The system can create a shared group conversation and help several travelers coordinate their plans from the same interface.

Individual group members can authorize their own spending amounts, allowing Marco to execute bookings within those predefined limits. Additionally, this could reduce some of the usual friction around group travel, where people often disagree about flights, hotel prices, travel dates or how much each person is willing to spend.

An agent that keeps track of those preferences, budgets and booking actions could make the process easier. This is particularly true when all participants can interact with the same system rather than passing information across multiple chats and booking websites.

WhatsApp and Instagram Could Make Agentic Travel Feel Less Like Software

Travelxp is making Marco available through WhatsApp, Instagram and its own website. This avoids forcing travelers to interact with the service through a dedicated standalone app. That distribution strategy may prove just as important as the AI technology behind the concierge.

Consumers increasingly interact with AI systems inside messaging platforms they already use every day. Therefore, if an AI agent can move from a simple conversation to itinerary creation, live travel search and eventually payment, the traditional travel website may become less central to the booking process.

A traveler could potentially ask Marco to organize a four-day trip within a specific budget, then allow the system to search available options and continue handling the booking process. That is a very different experience from opening several tabs and manually comparing flights, hotels and activities one by one.

Agentic AI Is Starting to Push Into Travel Commerce

Travel is becoming a natural testing ground for agentic AI because even a relatively simple trip involves several connected decisions. Flights, hotels, transfers, activities, restaurants, insurance and itinerary changes can all become part of the same journey.

Generative AI made travel planning easier by allowing travelers to describe what they wanted in natural language. However, agentic AI is now pushing toward the next stage, where the system does not simply recommend an itinerary but can take authorized actions to complete it.

Travelxp’s Marco reflects a broader shift in digital commerce where AI systems are moving beyond information retrieval and toward execution. In fact, similar agentic systems are being developed to shop, schedule appointments, operate enterprise software, manage workflows and complete purchases on behalf of users.

Trust Will Decide How Far Autonomous Travel Agents Can Go

The technical ability to make a booking does not automatically mean travelers will feel comfortable handing over control. This is important because travel decisions often involve more than price, and details such as cancellation policies, baggage allowances, room type, hotel location, loyalty benefits and refund conditions can matter just as much as the final cost.

Spending limits and approval requests can reduce some of the risk because they create clear boundaries around what the system can do without further permission. Still, the larger challenge for agentic travel platforms will be determining which decisions an AI can reasonably make alone. Similarly, platforms must decide which decisions should be returned to the traveler for confirmation.

That could become one of the main competitive areas in agentic travel. Ultimately, the most useful system may not be the one that sounds the most conversational, but the one that can take meaningful action while still giving users confidence that important decisions remain under their control.

Travelxp Gives Agentic AI a Real-World Commerce Test

Travelxp is a Mumbai-based, content-led online travel platform affiliated with Travelxp TV. With Marco, the company is placing itself inside a much broader experiment around autonomous AI commerce.

The interesting part of Marco is not simply that it can recommend destinations or create an itinerary because many existing AI systems can already do that. However, the bigger shift is its ability to search live inventory, work within predetermined financial boundaries, complete payments and continue assisting after the booking has been made.

That combination moves the idea of an AI travel assistant closer to an actual travel agent. The difference is subtle but important: an assistant mainly provides information, while an agent can act on that information.

Travel companies are now beginning to test how much of the booking journey consumers are willing to delegate to AI. Marco offers another real-world example of how quickly that line is starting to move.
