Snapchat is looking beyond the usual signals that drive digital advertising. Instead of waiting for someone to search for a product, visit a store or add something to a cart, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel believes artificial intelligence could help the platform understand what users may want before they clearly show buying intent.

Spiegel outlined that direction while discussing Snapchat’s future, with AI-powered recommendations, creator partnerships and product discovery becoming increasingly important to the company’s advertising strategy. The idea is not simply to make ads more automated. Snap wants AI to help brands reach people at an earlier stage, before the user has already decided what to buy.

Snapchat Sees AI Changing How Ads Find Consumers

Most digital advertising systems work best once a user has already shown interest. Someone searches for running shoes, visits a retail website or watches several product videos, and advertisers then use those signals to target them. Snapchat wants to move earlier in that process. Spiegel believes multimodal AI could analyze patterns across activity and interactions to identify what users might be interested in next, even when they have not directly searched for a product.

This approach could give Snap a different role in the advertising funnel. Instead of only competing for existing demand, the platform could help brands reach users while interests are still forming. That would make Snapchat less dependent on obvious shopping signals and potentially more valuable to advertisers looking for discovery rather than simple retargeting.

Generative Advertising Could Help Snap Create New Demand

Spiegel has described a future where AI does more than optimize existing campaigns. Snapchat could use generative systems to understand a person’s interests, identify relevant products or services and then connect that user with a business that fits the moment. The goal is to create demand rather than simply capture demand that already exists.

That distinction matters because platforms such as Google have traditionally been strong at serving advertisements once someone knows what they want. Snapchat sees an opening in helping people discover things they had not considered yet. If AI can make those recommendations feel timely and relevant, Snap could position itself as a stronger discovery platform rather than just another place for advertisers to chase conversions.

Snapchat Is Already Building AI Into Its Advertising Stack

Snapchat’s AI advertising ambitions are not limited to long-term plans. The company has already introduced AI-supported tools across campaign planning, creative development, shopping and conversational advertising. These features are designed to make campaign creation easier while giving brands more ways to interact with users inside Snapchat.

One example is AI-powered Sponsored Snaps, which allow users to engage with branded AI agents through direct conversations. Instead of simply seeing an advertisement and scrolling past it, users can ask questions, explore products or receive recommendations. That makes the advertisement feel closer to a digital assistant than a traditional display ad.

Creators Are Becoming More Important to Snapchat Ads

Creators are also becoming a larger part of Snap’s advertising strategy. Spiegel highlighted the strong engagement that creator-led campaigns can generate, suggesting that users often spend more time with advertising that feels connected to familiar content styles rather than polished brand messaging.

Snapchat has also built a large pool of creators that brands can potentially work with through the platform. That gives advertisers another route to reach younger audiences while keeping campaigns closer to the tone and format users already expect from creator content. The combination of creators and AI could eventually make campaign development faster while giving brands more flexibility over how content is produced and distributed.

AI Could Make Snapchat’s Creator Marketplace More Automated

Snap has also discussed using AI to simplify the way advertisers find and work with creators. Instead of requiring brands to manually search through creator profiles, negotiate collaborations and manage every step of a campaign, AI could take on more of that work.

An agentic creator marketplace could potentially turn an advertiser’s campaign objective into a broader creator strategy. AI could assist with identifying relevant creators, matching audiences, managing activations and supporting campaign fulfillment. That would make creator marketing easier for smaller brands that may not have dedicated influencer marketing teams.

Snapchat Wants Product Discovery to Feel More Natural

Product discovery is another important part of Snapchat’s broader advertising plans. Snap wants users to come across relevant products through content, conversations and recommendations rather than relying only on traditional shopping searches.

That could fit naturally with how people already use Snapchat. Friends share products, send recommendations and talk about what they are buying or planning to try. If AI can understand enough context to suggest relevant products without making the platform feel overloaded with advertisements, Snap could turn those everyday interactions into a stronger commerce opportunity.

Better Measurement Is Also Part of Snap’s Advertising Push

Advertising technology is only useful if marketers can understand whether it is producing results. Snap has also been improving its measurement tools, including attribution systems designed to give advertisers a clearer picture of what happens after someone interacts with a Snapchat campaign.

Better attribution can help brands connect campaigns with outcomes such as app installs, purchases, customer acquisition and onboarding. That becomes even more important as Snapchat expands AI-driven advertising because advertisers will want clear evidence that smarter recommendations and automated campaigns are actually contributing to business growth.

Snapchat Still Wants to Be Different From Traditional Social Media

Spiegel has continued to position Snapchat differently from traditional social platforms. The company often emphasizes private communication between friends rather than public broadcasting, and that distinction remains important as more AI and advertising features are introduced.

Snap needs to grow its advertising business without damaging the experience that keeps users coming back. If AI recommendations become too aggressive or commercial, they could undermine that private and conversational identity. The challenge will be making AI-powered advertising feel useful enough that it does not interrupt the way users naturally communicate.

What Snapchat’s AI Advertising Strategy Means for Marketers

Snapchat’s direction reflects a broader change in digital advertising. Platforms are increasingly trying to predict what users may want rather than waiting for clear search or purchase signals. AI gives companies more tools to analyze interests, conversations, content engagement and creator activity to build a more complete picture of potential intent.

For marketers, that could make Snapchat more valuable as a discovery channel. The platform is combining AI-powered recommendations, creator marketing, conversational ads, product discovery and stronger attribution into a broader advertising ecosystem. If Snap can make those pieces work together without weakening the user experience, it could become a more competitive advertising platform for brands trying to reach younger audiences.

    Conclusion

Snapchat’s advertising strategy is moving toward a more predictive model. Instead of focusing only on what users have already searched for or purchased, Snap wants AI to help identify what they may want next.

The opportunity is significant, but the balance will matter. Snapchat will need to prove that AI-driven recommendations can create useful discovery without making private conversations feel overly commercial. For advertisers, however, the direction is clear. Snap is building a platform where AI, creators, commerce and advertising increasingly work together.
