An Irish start-up focused on artificial intelligence training has raised €1 million in seed funding to develop a global skills and certification standard. The funding will support platform development, course creation, and team expansion as demand for AI skills continues to grow worldwide.

    Funding details and investors

The company, AICertified, secured the funding in a round led by Oyster Capital with support from Enterprise Ireland. The investment will be used to scale operations and prepare for the launch of its first training programs. The start-up plans to expand its team and accelerate product development over the coming year.

    Company background and leadership

AICertified was founded by Ian Dodson, an education entrepreneur who previously co-founded the Digital Marketing Institute. That organization became widely recognized for establishing a standardized framework for digital marketing education. Dodson said the AI training market lacks consistent benchmarks and clear measures of competence.

    Purpose of the certification framework

The start-up aims to build a structured certification system that defines what AI skills look like at different levels. The framework is designed to align with the European Qualifications Framework and provide clear progression paths. Planned offerings range from introductory modules to advanced professional and postgraduate credentials.

    Addressing gaps in AI education

Demand for AI skills is increasing across industries, but training options vary widely in quality and scope. Employers often struggle to assess whether candidates possess practical and reliable AI knowledge. AICertified’s approach seeks to address this issue by offering standardized, outcome based certification that employers can trust.

    Growth plans and timeline

The company plans to grow its team from eight employees to around fifteen within the next year. Funding will support content development, platform engineering, and partnerships with academic and industry groups. The first official courses are scheduled to launch in early 2026.

    Broader market context

As organizations adopt AI tools, structured training and skills validation have become more important. Governments, companies, and educators are increasingly focused on workforce readiness. The start-up positions itself within this shift by targeting both individual learners and enterprise clients.

The funding round supports efforts to bring consistency to AI education through a recognized skills framework. The initiative aims to help learners demonstrate competence while giving employers clearer signals when hiring for AI-related roles.
