At Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2025, Chantelle Richardsson, Deputy Director of Tourism for the Anguilla Tourist Board, unveiled a powerful update on the island’s trajectory—marked by record-breaking visitor arrivals, authentic cultural experiences, and game-changing regional and international connectivity. As one of the Caribbean’s most pristine and culturally immersive destinations, Anguilla is proving that small can indeed be mighty.

    Record-Breaking Growth and Post-Pandemic Recovery

Anguilla is celebrating a significant resurgence, fueled by both strategic marketing and a renewed global interest in off-the-beaten-path, experience-rich travel. In 2024, the island recorded a:

    • 32.6% overall increase in visitor arrivals
    • 58.7% rise in excursionists
    • Steady growth when compared to 2019, the last pre-pandemic benchmark year

“Our January 2025 reporting has already shown promising trends,” Richardsson said. “It’s a direct result of promoting the authentic Anguillian experience and investing in product positioning.”

The Anguillian Experience: Soft Adventure, Culture, and Festivals

What makes Anguilla unique? Beyond its acclaimed beaches and boutique resorts, the destination offers immersive cultural experiences that deeply engage visitors:

    • Diving is on the rise, with shipwrecks offering a thrilling underwater perspective on the island’s maritime history.
    • Historical tours provide context to Anguilla’s heritage, especially for culturally curious travelers.
    • Water sports and soft adventures appeal to active travelers seeking more than just relaxation.

But it’s Anguilla’s festival scene that truly differentiates it:

    • Festival del Mar celebrates the sea through food, culture, and community, merging local traditions with visitor participation.
    • Moonsplash, the reggae festival founded by legendary Anguillian artist Bankie Banx, draws international music lovers to the island each year.
    • The Anguilla Summer Festival features boat races (the national sport), vibrant parades, the iconic Poker Run, Eyes Wide Shut beach parties, and a one-of-a-kind calendar of events that infuses Anguilla with color, rhythm, and joy.

Connectivity: Unlocking Growth Through Air Access

One of the key drivers of Anguilla’s tourism rise is improved connectivity. Richardsson outlined major developments:

    • Local carriers Anguilla Air Services and TransAnguilla have expanded regional links.
    • Increased flights from Cape Air, Tradewind Aviation, and Trade Wind Anguilla have enhanced access from neighboring islands.
    • Most notably, American Airlines’ nonstop service from Miami to Anguilla has been a “game-changer,” fueling U.S. arrivals and creating twin-destination travel opportunities within the region.

“This added airlift not only drives arrivals,” Richardsson emphasized, “but it makes Anguilla more visible, more accessible, and more competitive.”

Strategic Marketplace Presence and Industry Engagement

Anguilla’s participation in Caribbean Travel Marketplace underscores its commitment to collaboration with trade partners, including media, tour operators, and hoteliers. “Being here is critical,” said Richardsson. “We’re not just promoting our island—we’re building relationships, sharing updates, and ensuring that Anguilla is top of mind when travelers are ready to book.”

With strong support from its hotel partners, the Tourist Board is focused on sustaining momentum, customizing packages, and broadening reach into emerging markets.

A Final Message: “Anguilla Is Your Destination”

As Anguilla rides the wave of growth into 2025 and beyond, it remains committed to sustainability, authenticity, and hospitality excellence. Whether you seek a romantic retreat, a family adventure, or a deep dive into Caribbean culture, Anguilla offers luxury without pretension and beauty without barriers.

“Anguilla is not just a place you visit,” Richardsson concluded. “It’s a destination you feel, one that stays with you long after you leave.”
