Palantir CEO urges Japan-US AI defense partnership

Palantir CEO Alex Karp in an interview with Nikkei called on Japan and the United States to speed up cooperation on artificial intelligence in defense, saying the two countries should develop an AI-powered targeting system together.

Karp said Japan could provide hardware while US companies supply the software infrastructure. “If I were in charge of Japan, what I would do is build an AI targeting system with America that’s co-managed,” he was cited as saying. “That brings the countries together, and it also asserts dominance,” Karp added.

His remarks followed claims by Chinese startup DeepSeek that it had built AI models matching US capabilities at lower costs. Karp called this a “wake-up call” that would push the US to invest more in AI.
