The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) is advancing prototype AI agents in higher education to support universities and academic institutions nationwide. The initiative focuses on research and development of artificial intelligence agents designed for educational use. The project is supported by Microsoft and aligns with national digital transformation goals.

The prototype AI agents in higher education are being developed to assist learning, research activities, and academic operations. MoHESR confirmed that the work is part of a broader effort to modernize higher education systems across the United Arab Emirates.

Role of Prototype AI Agents in Higher Education Systems

The prototype AI agents in higher education are intended to support multiple academic functions. These include student assistance, research support, data analysis, and digital learning services. The agents are being designed as early-stage models to test real-world applications in university environments.

MoHESR stated that the AI agents will be developed in collaboration with academic institutions and technology partners. The goal is to ensure alignment with national education priorities and workforce requirements. The initiative also focuses on responsible and structured AI integration.

Microsoft Support and Technology Collaboration

Microsoft is providing technical support for the prototype AI agents in higher education initiative. The collaboration includes access to cloud infrastructure, AI tools, and research capabilities. The support is aimed at accelerating development and testing of AI agent prototypes.

MoHESR is also working with higher education institutions and global technology providers. Universities participating in discussions include Khalifa University, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

Workshops, Governance, and National Strategy Alignment

The development of prototype AI agents in higher education builds on earlier MoHESR workshops focused on AI integration. One workshop involved more than 120 experts from universities, government entities, and the private sector. Technology companies such as Microsoft, SAP, and Google participated in solution demonstrations.

MoHESR has established an AI in Higher Education working group under the Advisory Committee for Higher Education and Future Skills. The initiative aligns with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which prioritizes AI adoption across education and research sectors.
