Shopify released its Winter 26 Edition called Renaissance. The update expands the use of agentic AI across enterprise commerce operations. The focus moves beyond chatbots and content tools toward AI systems managing workflows, infrastructure, and sales distribution.
A major change involves Agentic Storefronts. Products listed in Shopify admin now appear directly inside AI driven platforms. These include ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. Customers complete purchases within those conversations. Transaction and attribution data return to Shopify admin. Merchants no longer rely only on driving traffic to owned websites. This shift responds to changing search behavior driven by large language models.
Shopify reported internal data from the UK market. Ninety three percent of merchants invest in AI tools for discovery. Sixty six percent of consumers expect AI involvement in at least one stage of holiday shopping.
Shopify also upgraded its AI assistant Sidekick. The tool now operates as a proactive system. Sidekick Pulse suggests tasks using real time data. Examples include bundle recommendations based on cart behavior and alerts for missing compliance policies. Sidekick also generates admin apps from natural language prompts. Non technical staff build tools without developer input. The system also creates automation workflows from written descriptions. Prompts save as shared skills for standard use across teams.
To support testing and experimentation, Shopify introduced SimGym and Rollouts. SimGym remains in research preview. The tool uses AI shopper agents with simulated behavior. Merchants test storefront changes using synthetic traffic based on historical purchasing data. Rollouts allow scheduled experiments directly inside admin. Teams monitor buyer response before full deployment.
The update also addresses physical retail and developer productivity. Shopify launched POS Hub for in store hardware connectivity. The system provides wired connections for scanners and card readers. This improves reliability during high volume periods.
On the development side, Shopify introduced an AI native platform. AI agents scaffold apps, run GraphQL operations, and generate validated code. Shopify Catalog supports these tools. The catalog allows agents to search hundreds of millions of products for application development.
Shopify leadership stated the update reflects recent advances in AI capabilities. The storefront now operates as distributed data accessible by external AI systems. Preparing product data for this environment has become a requirement for enterprise commerce operations.
