Nigeria AI Scaling Hub Charts Strategic Roadmap for National AI Integration

The event, which included the Gates Foundation as a core partner, aimed to create a strategic roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to address key social and institutional challenges across the country.

The Nigeria AI Scaling Hub recently hosted a “Visioning Workshop” at the Lagos Business School, bringing together leaders from government, academia, and the private sector. The event, which included the Gates Foundation as a core partner, aimed to create a strategic roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to address key social and institutional challenges across the country.

The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, was a key participant. He highlighted that AI is not a future concept but a present reality that is actively transforming industries. Abdullahi emphasized the need to democratize access to these technologies, moving them from research labs into communities to solve local problems and improve livelihoods.

Leveraging AI for a $1 Trillion Economy

Abdullahi introduced NITDA’s AI Transformation Roadmap, a plan designed to use AI to improve smarter regulation and policy development. By training AI tools on existing legal frameworks, policymakers can work more efficiently and precisely. He noted that AI should be used as a “thought partner” to help leaders research, plan, and execute more effectively across all sectors.

The Director General also reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to fostering an environment where AI innovation can thrive. He urged stakeholders to collaborate on creating inclusive, AI-driven solutions for critical sectors like health, agriculture, and education, particularly in underserved communities. This collaborative effort, he stated, is crucial for realizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy.
