CTM 2025: Javon Griffith, Chairman, Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association BHTA

At Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2025, Javon Griffith, Chairman of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA), presented a resounding picture of momentum for the Eastern Caribbean destination. Representing over 400 tourism stakeholders—from car rental companies and restaurants to luxury resorts—Griffith emphasized how Barbados is undergoing a transformative moment in tourism marked by historic hotel development, expanding airlift, and the drive to make the island a year-round travel destination.

Tourism Surge Fueled by U.S. Market and Airlift Gains

Barbados has seen explosive growth in arrivals, especially from North America, thanks to a surge in new airlift from U.S. cities. The U.S. market, once primarily a winter source, is now driving traffic during summer months, helping to flatten traditional seasonal curves and push the destination toward year-round viability.

“Hotels are reporting some of their highest June occupancies in five years,” Griffith noted, attributing the success in part to the leadership of Minister of Tourism Ian Gooding-Edghill, whose efforts in international transport and strategic tourism partnerships have accelerated Barbados’ resurgence.

A Development Boom: Barbados’ Biggest Hotel Pipeline in Years

Griffith outlined a robust slate of hotel developments currently reshaping Barbados’ accommodation landscape. Highlights include:

  • Beaches Barbados: A highly anticipated 600-room family all-inclusive resort, set on the northwest coast.
  • Royalton Chic Barbados: A 222-room luxury all-inclusive resort opening in Q3 2026, further strengthening the west coast’s appeal.
  • Hotel Indigo Barbados: A 132-room property by IHG, marking the return of InterContinental Hotels Group to the island after decades, adding an urban-chic option.
  • Hyatt Ziva Barbados: One of the island’s most ambitious builds, featuring 367 rooms, 28 private residences, and dedicated meeting space—an ideal addition for the MICE segment.
  • Additional developments include The Pantry, Blue Monkey, and expanded all-inclusive offerings like Wyndham Barbados, reflecting the rising demand for fully packaged experiences.

“These new openings will ensure Barbados can meet the growing expectations of global travelers,” Griffith said, “while also positioning the island as a premier luxury and family destination.”

Shifting Consumer Trends and Market Behavior

As Barbados grows, so too does the evolution of its tourism product. Griffith noted key trends shaping how the island adapts:

  • Rising demand for all-inclusive resorts is prompting conversions across the hotel sector.
  • UK travelers maintain long booking windows—typically 8 to 10 months out—while U.S. visitors are trending toward shorter booking periods, averaging 4 to 6 weeks.

Understanding these behavioral shifts allows Barbados’ tourism operators to tailor their offerings, promotions, and communication strategies to suit the needs of each market.

Marketplace: A Vital Platform for Visibility and Partnership

Barbados has long understood the power of presence at Caribbean Travel Marketplace, and this year is no exception. With more than 20 hotel members exhibiting, the BHTA brought one of the largest contingents to the event.

“It’s a chance to meet buyers directly, showcase updates, and build long-term relationships,” said Griffith. “And the feedback has been exceptional—from airlines to operators, everyone’s excited about what Barbados is offering.”

The Outlook: Sustainable, Scalable, and Bright

Looking ahead, Griffith sees a future of sustained, scalable growth—supported by smart development, strategic leadership, and unwavering commitment from tourism partners.

“Our destination is evolving,” he concluded. “We’re not only expanding our hotel offerings and increasing connectivity—we’re redefining what it means to visit Barbados year-round.”

With ambitious infrastructure projects, rising visitor demand, and a unified tourism vision, Barbados is poised to remain a leader in Caribbean hospitality well into 2026 and beyond.
