Egypt explores cooperation with China’s Ningbo Pathology Center on AI-powered digital diagnostics

Egypt’s Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with representatives from China’s Ningbo Clinical Pathology Diagnostic Center to discuss potential collaboration in the fields of digital diagnostics and artificial intelligence (AI), according to the Health Ministry.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Huawei Connect 2025 conference in Shanghai, held from September 18 to 20.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that the talks focused on launching specialized online training programs for pathology technicians and specialists. These programs will cover modern diagnostic techniques, digital pathology, and AI applications aligned with international standards to enhance professional expertise.

The two parties also explored frameworks for medical team exchanges, development of quality management systems, and joint research initiatives in oncology, molecular and genetic studies, and AI-driven integrated diagnostics. Additionally, they reviewed plans to establish a digital consultation platform to facilitate remote discussions of complex medical cases.

During his visit to the Ningbo center, Minister Abdel Ghaffar toured its facilities to gain deeper insight into its operations. He also extended an invitation for the center’s representatives to visit Egypt and participate in a pilot project aimed at implementing digital pathology services in select Egyptian hospitals. This follows previous successful collaborations with Egypt’s central laboratories and specialized medical institutions.
